JUST IN: A California space startup has illuminated a section of desert near Mount Whitney at night, demonstrating how future satellites could deliver sunlight to Earth on demand.
Reflect Orbital conducted the October 10 test using powerful ground-based spotlights to simulate sunlight redirected from orbit by large reflective mirrors.
Working with China Lake Mountain Rescue, the company illuminated terrain across roughly three miles, allowing rescue teams to conduct nighttime searches, stretcher carries and other emergency-response exercises.
Reflect Orbital ultimately wants to deploy satellites capable of directing sunlight toward specific areas on Earth after sunset, potentially supporting emergency operations and extending electricity generation at solar farms.
The company received FCC authorization in July for its first experimental satellite, Eärendil-1, which will use an 18-meter reflector to test the concept from orbit.
The October demonstration used ground-based lighting. No orbital mirror has yet demonstrated the proposed capability.

🌌 6,800 light-years away, a dying star cast off its outer layers in one last grand act of existence. From that quiet explosion was born Abell 39 — a nearly perfect spherical planetary nebula, a rare cosmic bubble frozen in space.

Why are FIIs selling Indian equities?
US 10Y yield: 5%
INR depreciation: 3–5%
LTCG impact: 1–2%
A 10–12% rupee return can mean bond-like dollar returns for equity risk.
Nifty CAGR = 10-12%
Yields, Currency, LTCG, Growth
FIIs need a combo, not just tax reforms, to stay!
The MMX spacecraft carries two pieces of NASA hardware: The MEGANE instrument will be key to revealing the origin of Mars’s moons by measuring their elemental composition.
The P-Sampler demonstration will advance capabilities for surface material acquisition in low gravity. ½

You can build a 4D shape with one rule: copy it and slide.
Slide a point and you get a line. Slide the line sideways and you get a square. Slide the square upward and you get a cube. Each time, every corner is joined to its copy.
Do it once more, in a direction perpendicular to all three, and you get a tesseract: 16 corners, 32 edges. We can only see its shadow, which is why it looks like a cube inside a cube.
Every dimension is the last one, doubled and connected.

🇯🇵 Japan is one of the few to successfully return samples from deep space. While Phobos is small, it is orders of magnitude larger than Ryugu & Itokawa, enough to support wheeled rover and sophisticated robotic arm coring to extract deeper, higher-volume regolith samples

I slowed JAXA's 20x animation of the #MMX IDEFIX rover deployment down to 1x real time so you can see just how weak Phobos gravity is (~1/1,700th of Earth).
