Wally Funk, one of the Mercury 13 women who pushed boundaries in the 1960s, the first female FAA inspector, and the oldest woman to reach space at 82 aboard Blue Origin, passed away on July 8 at 87. We're excited to announce Take Off in Zero-G! This summer, lucky Space for Humanity followers, age 18 or older, from regions where space voices are often underrepresented, will win a seat aboard an Air Zero G flight departing from Bordeaux, France, on August 26, 2026. Beyond the flight itself, winners will work with an incredible group of established science communication mentors, who will be revealed throughout the campaign. They will provide guidance, training, and support to help them become effective space and science communicators. Participants will also develop and launch their own science-focused social media channels later in the year, bringing their stories and perspectives to new audiences around the world. The story of humanity's future amongst the stars should be told by many voices, not just a few. By empowering communicators from regions where space and science voices are underrepresented, we hope to expand access to knowledge, spark curiosity, and help ensure that the next chapter of exploration includes perspectives from every corner of the globe.
