Mehdi’s NAZA piece is a brutal read. He lays out some WILD revelations from Israeli military insiders: Palestinian kids killed in targeted bombings. The “human shields” excuse falling apart Unarmed Palestinians killed and counted as terrorists. Palestinians getting shot while trying to get food. Israeli soldiers facing the ugly reality of what they’ve done in Gaza. Now tell me again how it’s all Hamas propaganda. These are THEIR OWN people talking.

Imagine how Palestinians have been suffering at the hands of these terrorists for the last 80 years.
Latest on Heidi Levine: broken rib, four broken vertebrae, her finger was nearly cut off, multiple potential stabbing wounds. Surgery first thing in the morning.

Heidi is going to be okay, but her injuries are significantly worse than initially thought. It appears that she may have been stabbed. She’s getting ready for surgery.

Nine Americans have been killed by Israeli occupiers since 2022, & Israel has killed over 260 journalists since 2023 -- 2/3rds of all conflict-related journalist deaths. Politicians who support giving aid to Israel do not deserve your vote. They are not our "ally" & they are not a democracy.
“Let me die,” American photojournalist Heidi Levine repeats to journalists Jasper Nathaniel as they try to outrun masked Israeli settlers who attacked her on Friday while she covered the olive harvest in the West Bank village of Abu Falah, near Ramallah. Around 80 settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters in the village, AP reported. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated six people injured in two attacks in Abu Falah. Levine, a freelancer for the Washington Post, told the Committee to Protect Journalists that the settlers knocked her down and kicked her for at least 10 minutes, even after she identified herself as an American journalist. They stole her camera, phone and bag. She was eventually taken to a hospital in Ramallah. "The IDF provided cover, with tear gas and machine guns, while the settlers beat" Levine "nearly to death," Nathaniel wrote, adding that soldiers then shot a Palestinian bystander and aimed their guns at and shoved paramedics trying to treat him. AP photos and circulating videos show Israeli soldiers standing over a wounded Palestinian man after they shot him. Andrey X, an activist also at the scene, said a Palestinian man "saved our lives from the settler-terrorists who attacked the olive harvesters and journalists” armed only with a slingshot.

How many videos and testimonials do Americans need to see of the Israeli sickness and deranged violence they are forced to fund by both parties before demanding that it stop? These are not rogue Israeli actors. They are fully supported by the IDF and Israeli government:

I have no respect for this idea that art is somehow separable from politics. ALL art is political when you live in a genocidal dystopia, because all your expression exists in relation to our freakish civilization. If you were on fire, any action OR inaction on your part would necessarily be happening in relationship to the urgency of your situation. If you chose to stand there strumming your guitar while the flames consumed your body, nobody would try to argue that your artistic expression in that moment was somehow separable from your failure to address your urgent need for extinguishment. Your inaction would be a self-destructive act, and your final song would have been about burning to death — whether you sang anything about fire or not. In exactly the same way, western artists who ignore the abuses of the western empire are taking a political position and sharing a political message. They might be singing about romance or dancing or the Sandman, but their actual message is, "Here are those circuses you ordered, you vapid NPCs, you mindless empire automatons, you shambling zombies consuming the flesh of the third world. Distract yourselves from the burning ecosystem, from the screams of Gaza, from the suffering of the poor and the marginalized, from the AI-assisted surveillance system they are constructing all around you right this very moment. Pretend everything's fine and capitalism is working out great for everyone. Here you go, you empty-headed human livestock, sedate yourself with some catchy rhythms while our rulers turn our world into a desert planet so a few billionaires can become trillionaires." Real art tells the truth, and facilitates a deeper connection with reality. It pulls us into intimacy with parts of ourselves we'd been neglecting, draws attention to aspects of the human experience we'd avoided, directs us, rebukes us, inspires us, encourages us, emboldens us and reassures us as we crawl forth on our adventure across this mysterious blue planet during our short few decades between birth and death. And in a healthy world it could do all these things without ever getting "political", because the most urgent needs of the moment would typically just involve our feelings, our interpersonal relationships, and our struggle toward self-actualization. But we do not live in a healthy world. We live under a tyrannical world-eating empire that is fueled by human blood and suffering. That is our reality, and your art is either real about reality or it isn't. You're either telling the truth about reality or you're normalizing it. It's easy for the rich and the propaganda-addled to believe we are living in a healthy world where everything's basically fine, but for everyone whose eyes are open to the reality of our situation as a species, it's a five-alarm fire. A real artist is in tune with reality, and in this particular slice of spacetime our reality contains horrors that should be treated with the same urgency as we would have if our clothing caught fire. Telling artists to shut up about politics is telling them to stop being artists and start being propagandists for the empire. It's telling them, "Don't say anything unless you have absolutely nothing worthwhile to say. Your job isn't to incite, your job is to distract and sedate. Your job isn't to blow on the embers of human brilliance, your job is to play the fiddle while we smooth the pillow of a dying world." Fuck that. Make art. Be brilliant. Fight the empire. Free Palestine.

The Democratic Party’s relative apathy to defending Ilhan Omar (vs their enthusiastic Hasan Piker bashing) is just more evidence that they see the left as more of a threat than the right. They are not an opposition party, they exist to curb real resistance.
Maybe Democrats should loudly and strongly unite behind Ilhan Omar and against this dangerous and baseless investigation by Trump...

Two years ago today, Hamas' leader Yahya Sinwar was killed in combat in Gaza –– personally fighting on the frontlines against invading Israeli soldiers. Inexplicably, Israel chose to release its drone video of his last moments. Sitting in an armchair, hooded in a Palestinian kuffiyeh, his right arm blown off, covered in dust from artillery shelling, he resisted until his very last moment –– defiantly throwing a stick at the Israeli drone. In releasing this video, Israel inadvertently helped solidify Sinwar's already formidable military legacy amongst his people. Viewed by Israelis as an arch villain and terrorist embodiment of evil, the Palestinians rather see him as the modern day successor of their long line of resistance heroes, going way back to Izz al-Din al-Qassam himself, and further, in the past 150 years of resistance to Zionist colonialism in Palestine. The images of Sinwar's final moments eerily echoed his most iconic photo, below, in which he defiantly sat in a surviving armchair amidst the rubble of his home, destroyed by Israel in their 2021 aggression against the people of Gaza. The video also blew years of Israeli propaganda out of the water: Sinwar had not been "hiding behind Israeli hostages" or cowering in a hole somewhere, or using his people as human shields. He had been on the frontlines, personally commanding his troops and attempting to defend the southern city of Rafah. Read more in @maureenclarem's contemporary report on Sinwar's death for @intifada. Link in reply.

To be clear, the only reason I was able to reach Heidi was because young Palestinians provided cover with rocks against machine-gun- and tear-gas-wielding settlers and soldiers. It’s those kids, not the settler terrorists, who the IDF was hunting after the attack.
This is @infinite_jaz rushing to help Heidi under fire from Israeli settlers slings

The effort by Zionists to use Black voters as human shields here is worth exploring. Jewish voters don’t have the same demographic power as Black Americans, who are 12% of the population (vs Jews at 2%), and who are prominent in many swing states (eg MI, TX, OH, NC, VA, Fl) unlike Jewish Americans who tend to be concentrated in deep blue states (NY, DC, MD, NJ, MA). Even in swing states that are considered to have large Jewish populations, Jewish representation is fairly small, and they are dwarfed by other minority groups who get a fraction of the attention from the Democratic establishment. (FL is 3.5% Jewish, 29% Hispanic, 16% Black, 3.3 percent Asian, but no one is debating the effect of the Asian vote on Angie Nixon’s race.) Zionists like Shannon are co-opting traditional appeals made to Black voters about being the *base* of the party, but Jewish voters have nowhere near the same demographic power in a state like MI, which is 1% Jewish and 14% Black. Fully a quarter of all Michigan Dems are Black. (It’s also 4% Asian— again, no one is discussing the Asian American vote.) Nonetheless, Zionists exert an incredible amount of political influence, despite not being especially demographically relevant, bc of the disproportionate influence of Zionist lobbying. (Eg AIPAC et al.) The tethering of “Blacks & Jews” is intended to obscure this anti-democratic financial influence, and to launder it as democratic demographic power. The irony is that the democratic party’s indifference to Black voter demands and constant disciplining of Black Americans through “Sista Souljah” moments clearly shows theres a difference between how much respect money gets you vs votes.

Can you hear the children crying? The only reason anyone would still be talking about Jewish fear, Jewish feelings, or Jewish trauma is because you don’t see our babies as worthy of life.
“There are children crying inside the fire,” a volunteer screams. A woman has been killed and three children wounded by Israeli bombing of an apartment in Gaza City..

Israel literally bombed a residential building today, burned a mother in front of her 2 yo child, and u mfs are having a meltdown over a water bottle with a sticker saying bombing kids isn’t self defense. Ur complete lack of humanity should be a warning to the rest of the world.
UCLA Ronald Reagan ER - a patient seeking care was shocked to see political messaging in the treatment area: a water bottle displaying Palestinian propaganda and a nurse wearing a keffiyeh scrunchie. Why is political advocacy allowed in a place where patients should be receiving care?

In 2014 when Black youth in Ferguson were being brutalized by police and the National Guard during protests over Mike Brown's killing, it was Palestinian youth in Gaza and the West Bank who used social media to advise Ferguson protesters on how to deal with being tear-gassed. Because Palestinians were experienced in dealing with being tear-gassed (and worse) by the IDF. That was one month after Israel's 51 day invasion of Gaza which resulted in 2,200 Palestinians killed, 550 of them children. Even in the wake of being attacked by Israel, Palestinians stood in solidarity with Black Lives Matter protesters in the US. The residents of Gaza even painted a mural of George Floyd alongside symbols of solidarity with anti-racist protesters in the US. Seeing DNC-aligned establihsment influencers cynically attack the pro-Palestine movement in the US for political gain is a gut punch not only to Muslim and Arab Americans but to the Palestinians of the West Bank and Gaza who have stood in solidarity with US protesters for decades.

Instructive. Listen to this in case you think Israeli elections will bring any change, no matter who wins. Every single one of them backs perpetual Apartheid. Every. Single. One.
Israeli TV brings together a host of different candidates "from across the political spectrum" and asks them if they support the establishment of a Palestinian state. They uniformly declare "No!" "We'll fight it tooth and nail! … It's against God!" By Israeli standards, Netanyahu is a moderate who is not genocidal enough.

This is insane: The genocidal Israeli colonial regime continues its rapid descent into even more apocalyptic fascism. Israel's most influential think tank INSS, affiliated with Tel Aviv University, published this crazy white paper. It was written by the former IDF chief of intelligence, Tamir Hayman. He declares that "most Arab states are not genuine nation-states", and therefore that "undermining their stability is viewed as a natural process, one that Israel can manage more effectively than it can contend with strong nation-states, and one that it should even encourage". This is deeply ironic, considering that Israel is a Western settler-colonialist project created in 1948 by European and North American imperialists. It is the case study of a modern colonial political construct that is "not a genuine nation-state". But that's not even the worst part of the paper. The top IDF official also explicitly stated that Israel must have more war, and never promote peace. He wrote, "War is essential to national security and cannot be replaced by a state of peace", arguing that the pursuit of peace "is an expression of weakness". "War is necessary, and preventive war is preferable", the former IDF intelligence chief concluded, stressing that the "constant presence [of war] is an asset to national security". A UK Parliamentary inquiry did a sweeping review of Russia's supposed hand in Brexit and came up with nothing. Unless you want to count RT spending over $1,000 on Twitter ads to promote its Brexit coverage to UK-based viewers. Or Facebook reporting a Russian troll farm spending a grand total of 97 cents spent on three ads, all about immigration and not even mentioning Brexit. Since 2016, the NATO elite has waged a concerted disinformation campaign to blame Russia for populist rebukes. This comment follows in that tired tradition:

What’s interesting about polls that show Israeli society is callously, overwhelmingly pro-genocide is that no US liberal zionist politician or pundit is EVER asked about this central fact. Ever. It’s just never talked about in US discourse because it’s grossly inconvenient.
Israel's elections are coming up on Oct 27. Polling suggests that Netanyahu & Eisenkot's blocks are ~ tied w/ neither one capturing a majority. Of course, from the perspective of Palestinians, Lebanese & others in the region, there's little difference between the two, because they both echo majority Israeli Jewish opinion on topics related to Palestine, Lebanon & other countries in the region (Israeli govt policy does actually roughly reflect the will of its Jewish population). To give you an idea of such views, I spent 3 months last year collecting & analyzing every Israeli survey since Oct 7 (over 70 were deemed reliable and used for the analysis) & compiled them all into a database with an accompanying 7,500 word write-up (the article is linked below; link to the database in the article). A sample of the views of Israeli society is provided below w/ the range based on surveys between October 7 2023 and July 4 2025 (Israeli Jews only): · 94% say not enough or appropriate amount of firepower was used by IDF in Gaza (only 2% to 3% say too much firepower was used) · 78% to 93% say IDF has “performed” very good or excellent in Gaza (with 83% giving it high marks on “moral conduct”) · 77% to 83% say Israel should not take into account suffering of civilian population when fighting in Gaza · 77% to 82% are not distressed by humanitarian situation in Gaza · 70% believe you should not be able to post messages on social media that express sympathy for civilians in Gaza · 50% to 68% say Israel should not allow humanitarian aid into Gaza · 76% to 87% believe number of Palestinian “war” casualties is justified · 90% say Israel is doing too much or appropriate amount to “avoid” civilian casualties in Gaza (only 7% believe it’s doing too little) · 62% to 82% support the ethnic cleansing of Gaza Much more detail in article below (in comments) notesfromunderground.me/2025…
