We wanted to pay tribute to the iconic universe Takashi Murakami has built, while portraying his endless journey of continuing to explore the evolution of Kaikai Kiki through many different forms of visual expression. The iconic collaboration between JP THE WAVY and Takashi Murakami as MNNK Bro. was born from the intersection and collision of their two distinct worlds and artistic identities. That fusion creates something entirely new, exciting, and deeply inspiring to experience. We also wanted to honor Japanese rap culture by translating its appeal and energy into visuals that would amaze audiences around the world. It represents how the passion for hip-hop in Japan continues to evolve. This video was created with love, respect, passion, and a tremendous amount of effort. #SHUTOKOTOKYO #MNNKBro #TakashiMurakami #JPTHEWAVY

This was a concept I had wanted to bring to life from the very beginning of my collaboration with WAVY. Even the title was already there: “Shutoko Tokyo.” The song itself, spearheaded by WAVY, was actually completed around two years ago. But I made an adamant request to create a 30-minute extended version inspired by the sonic world of Geinoh Yamashirogumi in the animated film AKIRA. After about a year and a half of working back and forth with ineedmorebux, we finally completed it. For the music video, I asked BRTHR to direct it because their work on “LV MURAKAMI” was so incredible. This also took (inadvertently ended up taking) about a year to complete and it was a project full of its own challenges. I hope this song, which captures the present moment of the 2020s, will live on into the future! #SHUTOKOTOKYO #MNNKBro #TakashiMurakami #JPTHEWAVY
