National Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 21-27 📆, but we're celebrating our PanCAN volunteers all month! 💜 Each week, we'll introduce you to a new volunteer who is making an impact. This week, meet Jennifer Maldonado, the Mission Chair of our Portland Affiliate! 👋 Jennifer's sister-in-law, Teri, was diagnosed with #pancreaticcancer in 2018. Jennifer shares that Teri was a health writer and researcher by trade and “shared everything she found” in hopes of helping others in their own diagnosis, including detailing her journey in an article for @PreventionMag. Following her four-year battle, Teri passed away in 2022. She was just 57. Jennifer shares, “When the dust settled over our lives and we started to pick up some of the pieces, I felt like I needed to do something…getting out into the community and sharing as much information as I possibly could was what I needed to do. I wanted to continue that for her.” Seeking to keep Teri's mission alive, Jennifer has organized informational tables at community events like the @pdxwinterhawks Hawks Fight Cancer game and is planning to participate in educational sessions at local healthcare institutions to spread the word about PanCAN. 💜 “She wanted us to continue to support the organization,” Jennifer says.
