Before helping someone decide, ask what matters to them.
A caregiver can help gather information, take notes, and prepare questions while keeping the patient's preferences at the center.
Listen first. Support together.
Share with a loved one.

Behind every pink ribbon is a person, a family, and a story.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we recognize those facing a diagnosis, navigating treatment, living beyond it, or grieving someone they love. We also recognize the caregivers, friends, and families who show up through appointments, difficult decisions, and the everyday moments in between.
Awareness becomes meaningful through action. Check in with someone you care about. Offer a ride to an appointment, help with a meal, or make time to listen without expecting them to have the right words.
Support can start with a simple question: "What do you need today?" And it can continue long after October ends.
To everyone affected by breast cancer: your experiences matter, your questions deserve to be heard, and you deserve care and support throughout your journey.

A second opinion can bring another perspective and new questions.
If you would like to explore one, ask your healthcare team how to share your medical records and what information another physician may need.
Prepare information about your diagnosis, the questions you want to ask, and the priorities you want to discuss.
Ask your healthcare team about a second opinion.

Did you know 1 in 6 Black men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime?
Your family history is part of your health story.
If a close relative was diagnosed with prostate cancer, ask your physician about starting the screening conversation as early as age 40.
Black men and others with a family history may also benefit from a discussion by age 40. Decide together when to begin screening based on your individual risk, preferences, and the potential benefits and harms.

Before “what if,” ask “what else?”
A treatment conversation should include your options, the potential benefits and risks, and what matters most to you. Talk with your physician about your treatment goals, possible side effects, recovery, and follow-up care.
Write down your priorities and bring them to your physician.
Write down what matters to you.
