I was meant to be studying WoW Classic for all the game-design bits we can steal for Sol Wilds. Then Mage became too much fun and I forgot to do commentary. Strong research methodology, frankly.

Classic WoW handed us a quest to kill a Scarlet Crusade agent immediately after we’d killed him by accident. The quest text had barely finished the sentence before the penny dropped. It was that guy we just fucking killed.

Classic WoW did not have realistic lighting. It did have spooky farms, an Undead guard on an Undead horse, an eerie green lamp and art direction strong enough to make the whole forest feel haunted. That’s the bit that matters.

There’s something therapeutic about playing Mage in Classic WoW. I never mained one, but the spell rhythm, the Horde maps and all the mystic Undead nonsense immediately feel right. Like coming home to a class I apparently forgot I loved.

WoW Forever is turning campfires into a proper social system: gather round, contribute as a profession, and leave with a useful buff. It feels VERY Star Wars Galaxies, which is exactly the sort of thing more MMOs should steal.

I assumed a day/night cycle meant moving every tree shadow with the sun. Classic WoW mostly leaves its contact shadows alone and changes the colour instead, because that’s what your brain actually reads as time passing.

This Paladin quest put a physical Tome of Divinity in my backpack and expected me to find it, open it and read it. More work than modern quest dialogue, but much better world-building.

Would I play Paladin again? Absolutely not. Holy warrior isn't my class fantasy, I wish we'd rolled a mage, and the supposedly easy streaming class isn't feeling very easy. Still, that was the random roll.

I do wish WoW had a shorter day/night cycle. Like maybe 6 hours? 3hr day 3 hr night so 4 cycles in a 24hr day. I’ve only been able to play at night and haven’t gotten to see the world during the day. Would be great for folks who work overnights, but idk if it’s realistic for the way the game is made. @AggrendWoW

The deal for installing Questie was that we'd do every single quest in WoW Classic as penance. It sounded reasonable in stream one. It sounds like complete insanity now.
