It’s interesting that the language being used here removes agency from the labs
I frequently hear “agents are good at escaping sandboxes”
And not “labs test agents highly insecure environments to test agents in, resulting in huge externalities”
If Boeing missiles regularly misfired into major cities during the R&D process, no one would say “missiles are really good at accidentally misfiring”
The headline would definitely be “Boeing fails to safely develop missiles”
OpenAI and Anthropic are now investigating ***tens of thousands*** of incidents - not dozens.

i hate Flock as much as the next girl, but this is simply a completely broken criminal justice system, from cops to prosecutors to jailers. no actual police work happened here. and then they tortured her.
Lindsey Isaacs, a 23-year-old from Palm Coast, Florida, testified about being thrown into solitary confinement for more than three days after a Flock license-plate camera wrongly tied her Dodge Durango to a deadly I-4 crash.
Jail staff told her she had to stay isolated because of how serious the charges were. The cell door stayed locked for about 86 hours.
She said she was terrified she would spend the rest of her life in prison for a wreck she knew she hadn’t caused.
At her lowest point she didn’t want to live. She spent nearly two weeks in maximum-security jail before prosecutors dropped the charges.
Flock should be sued out of existence for this.

I think the right balance at this point is making gambling advertisements illegal — this would go an insanely long way to addressing the issue — and making betting apps illegal. You can gamble to your heart’s content, but it has to be at a physical location that’s licensed.
As someone who's led KYC implementation for financial services a handful of times, strong +1.
It's a privacy nightmare, even when you do it correctly.
We need a government system to plug into for verification that doesn't transmit PII - kind of like we had with the covid passes.

Apart from the fact that this isn’t true, what jumps out to me is the low opinion of human beings and human agency.
Humans are not at the mercy of technohistorical conditions. Humans can decide to not kill all humans.

In her defense, 15 minutes isn't crazy late for NYC. The guy's texts also invite drama. You're already at the table, why not wait and see how she reacts in-person, then decide whether you're still interested?
In his defense, she should've at least been in the car by 7:15 for a 7:15 date. An apology for being late feels 100% appropriate.
