No wonder Americans build their houses out of cardboard. I wouldn't trust concrete that shite

I realized that full scale testing might be a lot cheaper (maybe even an order of magnitude) than building a dozen different test stands at that scale. Every design goes through revisions but here we just see them before being discarded behind closed doors.
And I still have people in my comments saying the iterative approach for Starship hasn't done anything lmfaooo

Example: The pez dispenser. They could have built some elaborate gravity offload system and tested it on the ground. Instead they saved all that money and just threw it on the next flight

Ground testing normally permits better data gathering of individual components, think post inspection of parts, high speed footage, etc. But this way they get better data on the system level. Good luck simulating vibrations, temp changes, vacuum and zero-g in the same setup.

They could have just added a line about hyperspace tracking and it making you vulnerable to that kind of attack.
A beautiful scene ruined by totally destroying all the lore in Star Wars regarding hyperspace or superweapons. It's a perfect summation of the travesty that is The Last Jedi: visually stunning but otherwise absolute trash, and, naturally, fans of it don't understand why.

Three birds with one stone: Whatever the fuck that was, hyperspace tracking (Nobody used it because it is risky as fuck) and as a result showing how desperate that pathetic little worm is

This statement is so wrong it's fucking hilarious. Special tolerances aren't just for tighter tolerances. Our default is ISO 2768f and I've slapped +/- 1mm because I didn't need anything better. It also completely neglects interference fits, locating pins or geometric tolerances
i firmly believe engineers having to specify tolerances is an admission of failure* if your parts are so special that they require tight tolerances, you have designed them incorrectly *excluding optical, high pressure & propulsion systems

Good engineering in theory has special tolerances for EVERY dimension. Especially for large production runs. Defaults just don't cut it. As tight as necessary, as loose as possible.

Now I have to find a different keyboard and have my world view shattered in person. What do you mean Caps lock doesn't also affect the numbers? That's ILLEGAL111
BTW if you think Caps Lock is bad, you haven’t used a German keyboard. It doesn’t have Caps Lock, it has Shift Lock which is just bizarre. It acts as if you have shift pressed all the time. Means if you enter numbers you get symbols. xitter.cf/mitsuhiko/status/19292…

The scene where Cassian Andor ambushes Krennic with a lawsuit challenging his draft Environmental Impact Statement and secures an injunction because he's failed to document that the Death Star's gargantuan hyperdrive won't harm the Purrgil is gonna be next level:
Empire Magazine reveals that Director Orson Krennic in this season of #Andor is in charge of raising money to build the Death Star and is behind on schedule and over budget.

So you all remember back in 2020 when I had that thread on the cheap as chips $20 HDMI capture card that BLEW UP big time? Well guess what? I'm back with another, this time it's next generation and better than before! xitter.cf/Ascii211/status/126863…
Got one of those "camlink" USB converters because I was curious about em, and WHOAH I was shocked. UVC output, 20ms delay and signal looks to be properly grabbing 1080P@30. Single chip solution under a small sink and costs under $20. What in the heck is this.

finally removed those pesky restriction plates from my motorcycle carburettor. Going from 25kW back to the full 57kW.
A couple of months ago, my granddad gave me this scalpel holder. The blade is rather dull and i was never able to find proper blades.

However, i really want to give this knife a new life as it is surprisingly ergonomic and nice to control. A few weeks back, by coincidence, i managed to find the new patent/design holder.

They still sell this very same knife, however, now with rubberized grip but still the same aluminium casting in the centre. Along with two different blade geometries and platings. martor.com/en/products/debur…
