In classrooms across the world, they will discuss Nigeria and how Tinubu’s policies changed the trajectory of a struggling nation.
We are talking about change, policy and impact on a global scale, with renowned economists taking notice - and one Bangladesh or Kachalla will emerge from one yeye corner wey one yeye breeze blow, prancing upandan, licking lips with lecherous winks and asking for “just the tip.”
My ppl, there are levels to these conversations. 😂

James Robinson and his colleague, Daron Acemoglu are not only world renowned economists, they are also Nobel laureates- won the Nobel prize in Economics in 2024.
They coauthored another book- The narrow corridor.
In this book, Lagos in the 1990s was one of the cities they gave as examples of a failed city in complete anarchy and disorder before Tinubu took over.
So him referencing what Tinubu did Lagos is from a place of facts, data and research that was documented in their best seller.
You want me to leave an administrator acknowledged by peopel of this calibre for a talkative that doesn't know the meaning of KPI.
And for those that always claim Lagos is a "formal capita" it had everything going on well for it. Tinubu did nothing to transform Lagos, grab the book and read.
The book was published in 2019, four years before he became president.
One of the writers of the book “why nations fail” the book is a global document when it comes to development of a nation. He’s a renowned economist, you can hear what he’s view of BAT is and how he believes BATs credentials of being a former governor can be a useful tool for Nigerias developmental goals.

🧵 FROM OLOKOLA TO GATEWAY: THE 20+ YEAR JOURNEY TO NIGERIA'S NEW OGUN DEEP SEA PORT
Yesterday, 24 September 2026, a major new chapter was written in the long-running story of the proposed deep-sea port at Ogun Waterside.
The Ogun State Government and DP World, one of the world's major port and logistics operators, signed MoUs in Paris for the development of the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu witnessed the signing.
The investment package is expected to attract more than $7 billion in initial investment and create over 50,000 direct jobs, according to the government announcement.
But how did we get here?
Let's go back more than 20 years. 🇳🇬👇
1/ 2004 — THE EARLY BEGINNING
The Olokola Free Trade Zone was formally designated in 2004, according to NEPZA records.
The zone covers approximately 10,500 hectares across Ondo and Ogun and was conceived around oil & gas, manufacturing and industrial development.
This is one of the earliest formal milestones in the Olokola story.
2/ 2004–2005 — THE BIGGER VISION
The original concept was never simply about building a port.
The vision was an integrated economic corridor combining:
🚢 Deep Sea Port
🏭 Free Trade Zone
⛽ Oil & Gas
🔥 LNG
🏗️ Manufacturing
📦 Logistics
⚙️ Petrochemicals
🌍 Export industries
The ambition was to create a major industrial and maritime gateway for Nigeria and West Africa.
3/ 2005–2007 — OLNG ENTERS THE PICTURE
The proposed Olokola LNG (OKLNG) project became one of the major pillars of the development.
NNPC and international energy companies including Shell, Chevron and BG were involved in the proposed LNG project.
The thinking was straightforward:
Energy + Industry + Port + Logistics = Integrated Economic Hub.
4/ 17 APRIL 2007 — OFFICIAL FLAG-OFF
The Olokola Free Trade Zone and Deep Sea Port were officially flagged off at Ode-Omi, Ogun Waterside.
This was a major milestone.
But there is an important lesson here:
A project can be officially launched without being fully financed or constructed.
The project still needed concession arrangements, financing, infrastructure, investors and sustained implementation.
5/ 2008 — PRIVATE INVESTMENT
The project moved towards a private-sector/PPP model.
There was interest from international investors and development-finance institutions.
Associated infrastructure was also developed around the wider FTZ.
But the main deep-sea port itself did not progress into sustained full-scale construction.
6/ 2008 — PIONEER JETTY
A Pioneer Jetty was developed within the Olokola Free Trade Zone.
This was tangible infrastructure.
But it is important not to confuse the Pioneer Jetty with the construction of the proposed deep-sea port itself.
7/ 2009–2012 — MOMENTUM WEAKENS
The project encountered a combination of challenges involving:
• Inter-state coordination
• Ownership/equity arrangements
• Concession structures
• Financing
• Feasibility studies
• Political transitions
• The difficulties surrounding OKLNG
The project required Ogun, Ondo, the Federal Government and private investors to maintain a common development structure.
That proved difficult.
8/ 2012–2013 — ATTEMPTS TO REVIVE IT
The Olokola FTZ continued to be marketed internationally.
Private-sector interest remained.
At various points, completion dates were projected.
But those deadlines passed without the original deep-sea port becoming operational.
9/ 2013 — THE DANGOTE REFINERY CONNECTION
Plans were associated with a major Dangote refinery development at Olokola.
A large refinery would have provided a significant industrial anchor and potentially substantial cargo demand for the port.
The refinery was ultimately developed at the Lekki corridor.
That changed the original economic configuration envisaged for Olokola.
10/ 2014–2019 — STILL A PROPOSED PORT
Olokola remained on Nigeria's list of proposed deep-sea ports.

The Future Belongs to Those Who Build.
Nations are built when leaders make decisions whose benefits will outlive their tenure. The true measure of leadership is not merely managing the present, but creating the conditions for future prosperity.
For this reason, President @officialABAT and Governor @DapoAbiodunCON deserve commendation for advancing the Gateway Deep Seaport and Blue Marine Special Economic Zone projects. These are the kinds of long-term strategic investments that transform economies, expand opportunity, and alter the trajectory of regions for generations. The projects are expected to attract over $7 billion in initial investment and create more than 50,000 direct jobs.
This is not just another government announcement. It is a practical demonstration of what happens when vision, policy, and execution come together.
For those who spend their days arguing politics, it may be time to spend a little more time discussing economics. A deep seaport, a special economic zone, improved road and rail connectivity, industrial clusters, and export infrastructure are the building blocks of prosperity.
Now comes the more important conversation.
What is the plan in your state?
What is the plan in your local government?
What are your governors and local government chairmen doing to grow internally generated revenue, attract investment, create jobs, and expand the productive capacity of their economies?
Development is not a spectator sport. Every state must have a serious economic blueprint. Every local government must identify its comparative advantage. Every community must understand where growth will come from.
As Lagos continues its leap into the future, Ogun is increasingly positioning itself as a strategic partner in a broader regional development corridor. Others must also find their place in Nigeria’s unfolding economic transformation.
The future belongs to places that build infrastructure, attract capital, create jobs, and expand opportunity. The era of waiting for monthly allocations cannot remain the development strategy of any serious government.
Nigeria will rise one productive state, one productive local government, and one productive community at a time.
Politics may win elections, but development is what builds nations. The conversation must increasingly shift from who governs to what is being built.

Sensible leaders don’t leave what is important because of a roll call at the #UNGA.
The Presidency is one institution. @KashimSM is Presidency enough for New York while President Tinubu focuses on other matters of strategic national importance.
Serious nations understand the difference between symbolism and substance. Governance is about outcomes, not attendance registers.
Nigeria was represented. Nigeria’s interests were protected. That is what matters.
Great nations focus on results. Great leaders focus on priorities.
TINUBU: OGUN DEEP SEAPORT TO DECONGEST LAGOS PORT CORRIDOR
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says the proposed Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside, with a four-kilometre berth and an 18-metre draft, will help decongest the Lagos port corridor, ease pressure on the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports, and reduce costs and delays for importers, exporters and consumers.
He says the port will also accommodate larger, deeper-draft vessels that support modern global commerce.

In the video, the then-Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly -Rt. Hon. Anayo Nebe-now deceased—not only condemned the Peter Obi-led administration but also branded Peter Obi the governor who dragged Anambra workers “from grace to grass.”
Replying to @PeterObi
@PeterObi why did you not pay staff of the Anambra State Water Corporation (ANSWC) and the Anambra State Environmental and Sanitation Authority (ANSEPA) what was owed to them for 8 years? 🧐🤨
No salaries, gratuities, or pensions?
In May 2010, did the Industrial Arbitration Panel (IAP) and the National Industrial Court NOT order you & the Anambra State Government to pay over ₦1 billion in outstanding salary backlogs and allowances to employees of the Water Corporation and ANSEPA?
Why did you pay ONLY 5 months out of 16 months?
The order was given in 2010. You spent another 4 years in office after that order was issued, yet you only paid 5 months of outstanding salaries & you have the audacity to tell Nigerians that you left no debt?
Even when you knew you had 4 full years to pay the remaining 11 months of owed salaries to these workers, and you did not pay them?

PETER OBI MUST APOLOGISE TO AIRPORT STAFF AND PAY THE FINE FOR WRONG PARKING
As the Minister of Aviation, I felt a moral duty to investigate and authenticate the claim made by opposition candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, a few days ago that the tyres of his car were ‘unjustly’ clamped at the airport, suggesting a ‘persecution agenda’ against him by the Federal Government. Politics aside, every Nigerian is entitled to fair treatment under the law.
I therefore instituted an internal inquiry over the issue.
Luckily enough, the entire Abuja airport is covered by CCTV cameras, real-time, 24/7. But apparently, this fact was unknown to Mr. Peter Obi. Otherwise, perhaps he would have been more circumspect before rushing to the media to cry ‘persecution’.
From the recordings, these are the facts:
1. On Saturday, July 4th, 2026, Mr. Obi arrived at the domestic wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja at exactly 20:28 pm, driven by a Policeman. He alighted with two other occupants and went into the terminal building.
2. The Police driver then parked the vehicle, almost blocking the entrance and came out himself and went into the terminal building too. The airport rule is that, apart from the fact that it is a drop-off zone, a driver must remain behind the wheels of the vehicle for it to be tolerated for some time within that zone. Still the vehicle tyres were not clamped.
3. The Policeman came back to the vehicle at about 20:32pm and collected something from the vehicle and went back into the building again, leaving the vehicle unattended to.
4. At this point, the dutiful airport security staff came over and clamped the tyres of the car. In doing this, contrary to the claims by Peter Obi, nobody was inside the car and so nobody knew whether it was his car (not that it should matter, anyway).
5. When the Policeman returned again and discovered the tyres were clamped, he was directed to an office and upon getting there, he called Mr. Peter Obi on his phone and gave the phone to the manager. Mr. Peter Obi then introduced himself and spoke with the manager, peddled his ‘influence’ and requested for the release of the vehicle. His vehicle was then released without him paying the necessary fine.
6. It is important to note that the time the vehicle was parked unattended to in that prohibited zone was about 30 minutes, which constitutes a security risk at an airport by global best practices.
What has emerged from this is a clear case of an opposition candidate trying to whip up unnecessary sentiments for a wrong he committed with his driver. The excuse which Mr. Peter Obi gave that there were other offenders too on that day (which is completely false) cannot be an excuse for an individual aspiring to be President of Nigeria. He must live above board.
This is a matter that was not even mentioned at all by the airport authorities and had been put to rest. But ever determined to milk any situation to score cheap political points, Mr. Peter Obi decided to go on air to render a false narrative.
Therefore, he must also face the consequences of his actions. (I have attached the CCTV footages to this statement for the public to clearly see what transpired.)
In the circumstances, consistent with the principle of equality before the law, as Minister of Aviation, I make the following demands on Mr. Peter Obi:
1. That he tenders an unreserved, public apology to those hardworking, ordinary Nigerian workers at the airport, just doing their jobs dutifully and whom he sought to blackmail as his ‘persecutors’.
2. That Mr. Peter Obi voluntarily goes back to the airport and pay the appropriate fine of N25,000 for wrongful parking at the airport for which he used ‘influence peddling’ to bully his way out on that day. He cannot be bigger than the law.
If these demands are not met within one week, I will be giving the necessary directives to the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to take the next steps against him.

I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast commitment to the security of Nigerians and offer special praise to the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, whose coordination of our security architecture continues to deliver tangible results. I also salute the DSS and all the security personnel involved in this operation.

Being Obidient will make you hate Nigeria and you won’t even realize it. It takes serious conscious efforts to snap out of it, and you’ll realize that you’re now fully against the progress of the country and it won’t make any sense to you because positive news about the place now makes you feel uneasy, uncomfortable, mixed
Because you need to understand that a country will have ups and downs no matter who is there leading it just like our personal lives, so is this really about Nigeria or personal sentiments? What convinces you that life under your own preferred will be bliss and bloom? Nothing about life or the universe agrees with your state of mind
