We are a community of dreamers fighting for change. We are not armed with weapons that destroy but chess sets that empower. Our greatest tool is the stories of hope we tell because through those simple stories we can inspire global hope and opportunity.
This young girl living in a refugee camp in The Democratic Republic of Congo, carries a story of resilience and courage. She has endured unimaginable trials, yet despite the challenges, she remains a beacon of hope, w/ incredible potential. @SogaChess @CongoleseYoung

Calling all builders, makers, dreamers and entrepreneurs. We need all hands on deck!! We are transforming waste plastic into recycled chess sets in the most unlikely of places. These sets are used for education to children living in these communities as seen here in Goma, DRC

Deep down, I believe each of us simply wants to leave this world a little fairer than we found it. And I deeply respect that @realBashige
I feel compelled to share what happened today. We had planned to distribute chess sets at EPHATA鈥檚 secondary school, where many of the students participating in our program are deaf, although nearly 40% can speak. What we had not planned was to include the primary school, where all the children are deaf. As we were leaving, the primary school teacher followed me and explained that her children also wanted to be included. I was in tears, asking myself how, in a mission dedicated to children, I had almost forgotten them. Was it because they were deaf? Had we unintentionally left them behind because of their disability? I was heartbroken and disappointed in myself. I promised the teacher that we would return on Tuesday, especially for these children. Back at the factory, I told the team that we would dedicate our next production to them and document the process as a reminder of a moment when we nearly failed to live up to our commitment. We work for children, especially those who are too often left behind. Sometimes, we may lose sight of our mission, but recognizing our mistakes reminds us why we started in the first place. Deep down, I believe each of us simply wants to leave this world a little fairer than we found it. And I deeply respect that @realBashige

We must take initiative, not only for ourselves, but also for the generations to come. It may be too late for us to fully enjoy the benefits our nation has to offer, Or perhaps it is simply too early for us to enjoy them. But one thing is certain: by educating our youth, equipping them with knowledge, and exposing them to opportunities, we can ensure that it is not too late for our children to enjoy the benefits of this nation. It's not too late! we can still build a better future for the generation to come. @realBashige

We have reached an important milestone in our journey. Today, we introduced locally manufactured chess sets at EPHATA, a school that also supports people who are deaf or hard of hearing. This is a significant step forward for us, as it allows us to reach and include another community through chess and education. We continue to expand our distribution efforts while maintaining production to reach even more schools and communities. @SogaChess

It is a privilege to see children discovering chess at such a young age. What matters most is that they will never lack someone to support them, encourage them, and show them the way. And they will never lack chess equipment to learn and play either, because their chessboards are made from recycled plastic.

#ITIG Integrates Chess into Its Extracurricular Activities. Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo As part of the Chess in City program, locally produced chess sets were recently delivered to ITIG Goma (Institut Technique Industriel de Goma), a Salesian school of Don Bosco @donboscoarg . The chess sets were manufactured locally using recycled plastic waste collected from Goma, giving discarded materials a new purpose as educational tools. Following the donation, ITIG Goma has officially integrated chess into its extracurricular activities, providing students with an additional educational activity focused on strategic thinking, concentration, logical reasoning, and problem solving. This initiative also marks an important step in the development of chess within the education sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as schools increasingly create opportunities for children and teenagers to learn and practice the game. Through Chess in City, @thegiftofchess chess sets are produced locally with the aim of supporting schools and making chess more accessible to students across Goma and other parts of the DRC.

Turning Plastic Waste into Education Tools We were happy to donate locally produced chess sets to Nyota Yetu School, a school supported by @FocusCongo_DRC . These chess sets are made from plastic waste that was polluting the streets and soil of Goma. Today, that same waste has been transformed into educational tools that help children think, learn, and develop strategic skills. For the first time in the history of the DRC, Nyota Yetu has officially introduced chess as part of its extracurricular activities. This is an important step for education in the DRC and a new opportunity for students to discover chess. Our goal is to produce chess sets locally, support education, and make chess accessible to more schools in Goma and across the DRC. Every order helps us reach more children.

This is what love looks like For almost three months,we collected plastic waste, processed it,turned it into chess sets. And today, we can look at those chess sets differently because They helped 30 children in Sake, eastern DRC, get access to education. 30 children who have known war and displacement from a very young age, who deserve something that goes beyond surviving , the chance to learn and to dream a different future. That is what Chess in City is about. We believe that a chessboard can carry a message! A piece of plastic that could have ended up as waste can become a chess piece , help fund education and give a child a future. This is where climate action, education and the lives of children affected by conflict meet. when you order one of our chess sets, you are helping a child in the DRC go to school. P.S : After almost three months of making these sets with our own hands, seeing them reach children makes every difficult day worth it. This is what love looks like.
