More podcasts should have a season theme like tv shows. I’m really obsessed with listening to the bootstrapped founder lately as soon as it comes out because the founder is building a new SaaS and talking about the journey.

If you haven't talked to your accountant about this already and employ engineers, talk to your accountant *immediately* because the sticker shock needs to be seen to be believed.

This will cause those businesses tax accounting to show "artificial" profits in the first ~4 years of the adjustment period, beginning this in tax year 2022, and then they will be taxed on those virtual profits *immediately* despite them not corresponding to cash actually earned.

The very short version of the issue is a 2017 change in an obscure part of the tax code that was essentially ignorable by many small companies caused all software development expenses, including salaries, to need to be depreciated and not expensed.

I will probably write about Section 174 depreciation changes and the impact on small software companies and startups in the future, but in the meanwhile, @mjwhansen is organizing a letter to Congress to encourage them to modify policy sensibly.

This is happening right now to most small US software businesses, many of which are indie founders who are running very lean operations.
No massive savings. Maybe a few months.
And then taht tax bill hits.
This is a very urgent problem that many founders still aren't aware of.

Thanks to @robwalling for answering my query for a more diverse bootstrapped podcast feed:

So on the first Tuesday of the @SoftwareSocPod hiatus, @bmoesta and Greg Engle come back with the 2nd season of the Circuit Breaker 🎉 And they're talking about empathy! Not sure how you pulled that off, but well played @mjwhansen 😆podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

Here are my five favorite podcasts of 2022. I highly recommend each one if you're a SaaS founder.

Just listened to the @SoftwareSocPod episode with @cgenco talking about launching TheVideoClipper, and there is an entire season of @EngAdvicePod that would have benefited from this. 🤔
We *should* have been doing it all along, but it was too much work.
🚀 If you're sitting on a backlog of podcast interviews, conference talks, or YouTube videos and you'd like to be clipping them for social media, I've got a thing for ya as of ten minutes ago that can help:

This episode of @SoftwareSocPod was so good. As a third-culture kid I’ve switched between principles-first & applications-first without consciously realizing it was a cultural thing.
It’s good to be aware of this when you’re writing docs / newsletters for example.

To write copy that converts, you need to spend time on voice-of-customer research. A lot of time. You need to develop empathy for your prospects feelings and beliefs.
