One of the most celebrated and beloved actresses of the twentieth century, Dame Maggie Smith has left an indelible legacy on British stage and screen. While Smith has played many dramatic roles to acclaim over seven decades, including winning an Oscar for ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’, she is well-remembered for her comic timing and sly humour.
Dame Maggie Smith’s talent assured her a long and prolific career which will live long in our collective imagination. Her contribution to British theatre and film will be forever celebrated through the V&A Theatre and Performance Collection, from her costume as Lady Bracknell from ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ at Aldwych Theatre, to a recording of her performance in ‘Three Tall Women’ at Wyndham’s Theatre in 1995. Our condolences to her family and friends.

As a cancer specialist, I find this level of journalism absolutely appalling. It’s hard to know where to begin, when the lack of understanding of how cancer might affect people is this poor. I’m more than happy to speak to @AllisonPearson to explain why this is so bad

The evolution of ceramics.
Since ancient times, ceramics have been associated with extraordinary artwork. From functional vessels that were part of everyday life to avant-garde expressions that challenge conventional perceptions of pottery, each piece in our collection is a testament to the versatility of this enduring art form.
If you’re into pottery, it’s in the V&A.
