Discord told users it doesn’t look at their messages, calls, or other content when sorting accounts by age. Florida is now suing Discord because it doesn’t look at their messages, calls, or other content. The complaint objects that Discord’s filters only scan images and videos and leave text, voice, and calls untouched.
It lists voice and video channels as an unfair practice. It wants ID checks before users can be seen or share anything.
The state is seeking up to $150,000 per violation and a court order to make it happen.
Florida calls this child safety but it's a demand that nobody on Discord gets to have a private conversation again.

This is something that we should all get behind
Dedicating this amount towards hiring a real moderation team or improving reporting systems would have made more of an impact
Roblox Corporation has spent $500,000 each to committees for Democrats and Republicans to win the 2026 U.S. Senate elections.
This spending was tracked through the Political Action Committee (PAC) “NEXT LEVEL PAC,” which received $1,040,000 from the Roblox Corporation. The PAC then spent $1,000,000 evenly between the Senate Majority PAC (SMP), which aims to elect a Democrat majority, and the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), which aims to elect a Republican majority. Of the remaining $40,000, $11,000 went to “Compliance Consulting”.

Found this out days ago after reading my YouTube comments (and found out a county lawsuit). Kansas is now the 20th state to take some sort of action against Roblox, and the 6th state to reach a settlement.
🇹🇷 TURKEY: SOCIAL MEDIA BAN FOR UNDER-15s
Effective November 1, platforms must block users under 15.
Age verification will use a government-issued token via e-Devlet.
For ages 15–17: private accounts, no livestreaming, no personalized ads and restrictions on addictive design features.
Existing accounts must be verified by March 31, 2027.
Age verification changes access to the internet for everyone, not just under-15s.

Apple chairman Tim Cook is backing the EU KIDS Act, which would bring app stores and operating systems into scope for age verification.
Age verification means identity verification. Under the KIDS Act, that check would happen at the device level, before anyone downloads an app.
Cook discussed the proposal with Ursula von der Leyen in New York. This week he told Roberta Metsola and MEPs that Apple was “very encouraged” by it. He also reportedly called Australia’s age verification rules “world-leading.”
The EU’s own age verification app was hacked in under two minutes in April, with scanned ID documents stored unencrypted.

French YouTuber j0nathan says he lost his channel of about 190,000 subscribers after uploading gameplay from Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival.
The youtuber censored parts of the footage, but YouTube removed the video and deleted his channel.
In his appeal: “It was just a gameplay video, not ‘content intended for sexual gratification’.”
He questioned why other creators could show similar scenes without the same consequences and is now considering legal action under the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA).

Discord’s second attempt at age verification is already having problems.
Discord now estimates your age from things like account age, servers, communities and connected games and says it doesn’t use your messages or calls, and around 90% of users won’t need to verify manually.
Some users are being put in the wrong age group, while others see different results on different devices.
Discord was also cooked alive for making jokes about the bugs during the rollout.
The company says it is going ahead with the system because more places, including Brazil and Texas, are introducing laws that require online services to check users’ ages.

Switzerland wants every messaging app, VPN,
and email service over 5000 users to grab your government ID,
log your IP for six months, and decrypt your traffic on demand.
They're doing it by decree, skipping the vote.
The privacy capital, gone.

This post is misleading, as Switzerland’s VÜPF was already overhauled with the 2018 BÜPF revision after a failed referendum; the current proposal is a 2025 partial update that faced heavy backlash, was sent back for revision, and remains a draft. It is not in force.

The EU is again debating its controversial “Chat Control” plans, they claim that will helpfight child sexual abuse online, but the main dispute is over private messages.
The EU Council wants authorities to be able to order online services to scan parts of their platforms for illegal content, including known and new child sexual abuse material and attempts to groom children.
The question is how to protect children online without subjecting private communications to wider scanning.
