It was a joy to speak at @foleyinstitute yesterday about why we should study the culture of climate adaptation & how we should study it (& support it) going forward.
You can catch the recording of the talk, & thought-provoking Q&A, here: youtube.com/watch?v=AJoGC-J_…

New theme issue of #PhilTransB edited by @AnnePisor, J. Stephen Lansing & Kate Magargal looks at methods people use to adapt to environmental changes. Understanding this can help researchers, policymakers and organisations better support communities as they respond to #ClimateChange: bit.ly/PTB1889 #CulturalEvoReads

It’s nearly job market time—and grad interviews, etc.—so here’s a thread on clothes as a big girl.
1) Wear what makes you feel comfortable + what fits NOW.
2) You’ll likely have to shop online. If you can, get multiple sizes.
3) So plan early.
4) But from where?👇

Our paper on Bayesian inference of welfare-tradeoff ratios is now out (with John Tooby and Leda Cosmides).
We find that people infer the weight that other people assign to their utility, and do so in a statistically near-optimal way.

@kris_m_smith: There may be an internal regulatory variable that upregulates interest in long-distance relationships (LDRs). Data suggest long-distance orientation is distinct from extraversion & openness in US sample. LDO ports to Tanzania, where it predicts LDRs. 1/2 #HBES2023

Need is central to many models of human cooperation including need-based sharing: asking for help only when in need & sharing when asked. But it ends up that even if individuals ask when *not* in need, sharing can still enhance survival for all involved 1/
