🚨🎙️ JOSE MOURINHO ON WHAT HE TOLD ARDA GÜLER DURING HIS SUBSTITUTION! 🤍🇹🇷 🗣️ “People saw me embracing Arda when he came off. I was telling him something important, something I remember discussing with Mesut Özil when we worked together here. I told him, ‘Arda, there are very good footballers, but then there are players who reach a level where no manager can afford to leave them out. It doesn't matter who is on the bench. You have to make yourself impossible to ignore.’ That is exactly what I want him to understand. Everyone knows Arda as an attacking player. They love watching him create chances, play those beautiful passes and score spectacular goals. But today, I asked him to play deeper and take responsibility for controlling the midfield. And he played as if he had been doing that job for ten years. He dictated the tempo, demanded the ball, organised his teammates and knew exactly when to accelerate the game or slow it down. Despite playing in a different role, he still found a way to score. At one point, I turned to my assistant and said, ‘Look at this boy. He has changed positions, yet he is still one of the most influential players on the pitch.’ That is what separates special players from ordinary ones. Some footballers can only perform when everything is designed around their strengths. But Arda is different. Ask him to create, and he creates. Ask him to control the midfield, and he takes responsibility. Ask him to work for the team, and he does it. Real Madrid supporters have seen some of the greatest players in football history. Having a beautiful left foot is not enough to impress them. They want commitment, courage, responsibility and a player who never hides when the game becomes difficult. Arda has those qualities. Of course, he is still young, and there are things he needs to improve. Sometimes I tell him, ‘Arda, you don't always need to attempt the most difficult pass. Sometimes the simplest decision is the smartest one.’ And he listens. That is important. You cannot teach a player everything about seeing football the way Arda does. You can improve his positioning and decision-making, but his natural understanding of the game is something special. When I embraced him, I told him to remember this performance, not just because of the goal, but because of everything he did throughout the match. I worked with Mesut Özil here, and I know what an extraordinary football brain looks like. I am not asking Arda to become Özil. I want him to develop his own identity and understand how influential he can become. I told him, ‘Keep working, keep accepting responsibility, and one day people will stop debating where you should play. Instead, they will be asking how to build a team around your qualities.’ That is the level he should aim for. I don't need to promise Arda anything. He simply needs to keep giving me reasons to select him. And after this performance, he has given me plenty.” #ArdaGüler #RealMadrid #HalaMadrid
