Ed Davey refuses to work with the only Jewish leader of a British political party because that Jewish leader is not a zionist.
This is, needless to say, extremely antisemitic.

The Lib Dems called Israel’s actions genocide.
That makes their behaviour more self incriminating.
They haven’t ruled out working with Labour, which helped facilitate genocide.
Neither do they accept obligations of 1948 Convention on the PREVENTION + Punishment of Genocide

Thames Water is borrowing £2.4bn at 10% interest so it can keep funding dividends, even though bosses know it won't be able to repay the money when the company goes tits up. This is corrupt and the government should make it clear that taxpayers won't pick up the tab.

Every time the BBC airs the crocodile tears of a British zionist who feels “hurt and upset” at being told their ideology is racist, Hind Rajab enters my mind: six years old, trapped in a car with her murdered family, pleading to the Red Crescent to save her.

NEW: Andy Burnham has officially rejected Jeremy Corbyn's call for a public inquiry into "British complicity" in Gaza.
The former Labour leader wrote to the PM in July asking him to back his Private Member's Bill for a Chilcot-style inquiry, which would look at any UK military, economic or political cooperation with Israel since October 2023.
This would include the power to question ministers on the supply or use of weapons, surveillance aircraft and Royal Air Force bases.
The idea was rejected by Starmer. The govt have confirmed in response to a written question today that their position remains unchanged under Burnham, saying an inquiry isn't necessary due to the "extensive mechanisms already available for parliamentary accountability and oversight".
Corbyn said:“Andy Burnham rightly said that the last Labour government “got it wrong” over Gaza. But his words will mean very little if he doesn’t break with the last government’s shameful record of complicity, secrecy and evasion.
"Many of us will remember in the aftermath of Iraq, the government of the day spent many years resisting attempts to uncover the truth. In the end, they could not prevent the inevitable. Just like Iraq, we will remember those who obstructed the path to justice."

Andy, we know just the policy prescription: public ownership. 😉
Water run for the people who pay the bills. Democratic accountability. Money reinvested in fixing pipes and cleaning rivers.
Happy to pop round with the notes. Some of us have kept them handy.

To be clear: both the Lib Dems and Labour are saying that they will refuse to form a coalition with the Greens, even if it as the expense of a Reform or Tory government, because of a Green Party conference motion condemning a political ideology that’s led to genocide?
Really?

“China is bombarding European markets with electric cars, solar panels, wind turbines and other products”, warns the Economist.
What a terrifying prospect it is, to be bombarded with affordable clean energy and cheap electric cars, at a time when we’re supposed to be dealing with a climate emergency and a cost-of-living crisis.
The whole leader reads like a war briefing: “economic warfare”, “second-strike trade weapons”. China is the enemy, and solar panels are the guns!
This is another example of the Chinese being very strange imperialists. After all, bombardment from the Western powers usually comes in the form of, well, bombs.
Yugoslavia: 78 days of NATO bombing in 1999, including depleted uranium and cluster munitions.
Afghanistan: two decades of US-led war, topped off with the first-ever combat use of the “Mother of All Bombs”.
Iraq: “shock and awe”, depleted uranium, white phosphorus in Fallujah, hundreds of thousands dead.
Libya: a NATO air campaign that turned the country with the highest living standards in Africa into a failed state with open slave markets.
Iran: Now in the eighth month of the criminal US-Israeli war.
China’s version of “bombardment” consists of goods that Europe wants and needs.
Europe’s real economic problem is that its industry stopped investing, its governments embraced austerity, privatisation and financialisation, and its energy policy was handed to Washington. China kept planning and building. That really didn’t need to be a “China shock”.

Ed has never threatened the Labour Party with non-cooperation for facilitating and enabling a genocide, arresting pensioners for holding signs, or overseeing new restrictions on the right to peaceful protest... despite being the Party of civil liberties. Why is that?
Seems to me the whole political establishment is telling on itself. A motion is a red line, but genocide isn't.

The fact that the BBC would almost certainly defend the construction of the interview with @ZackPolanski and suggest that @Jo_Coburn 's comments dont raise any concerns about her impartiality when a BBC journalist says much about how the notion of impartiality is interpreted.
Regarding the interview with @ZackPolanski, a telling moment is where @bbclaurak asks him do you think it is for the Green Party to tell Jewish people what Zionism means? The underpinning premises here are a) that it is for the Jewish people to define Zionism b) they are of one voice in how they define it. Palestinians , by implication, should have no stake in how an ideology and movement that has led to their dispossession is understood.
The whole framing of the interview and the subsequent intervention by @Jo_Coburn is that the motion is offensive because it is defining Zionisim as racist and most Jews are Zionists. Most Palestinians are anti zionist but calling them racist for opposing Zionism is not deemed controversial and offensive. The BBC has not run interview after interview to discuss the "controversial " statements by @chiefrabbi when he regularly frames anti zionism in this way.
But this should not be a question of differing opinions and the right to express them . It should be about the facts of history and how they are discussed and presented. It is a fact of history that 750k plus Palestinians were forced from their land between 1947 and 1949. It is a fact of history that successive Israeli Governments have enacted laws and policies which authoritative bodies including the ICJ have described as racist against Palestinians, and meeting the definition of apartheid.
Zack correctly says that no state has a right to exist. He is expressing a legal fact but this is presented as nonsensical. But why is it that this need to protect a state's right to exist only arises in relation to Israel. If a politician condemns the character of the state of Iran or calls for regime change are they asked, " do you accept that Iran has a right to exist?" If someone advocates for Scottish independence are they asked " but what about Britain's right to exist?"
@Jo_Coburn states that she is a Zionist and that the Green motion, and by implication anti zionism as a political belief , is offensive and racist. She is undoubtedly a journalist who would vigorously defend her credibility as impartial. So the clear implication is that expressing such views is not to be partial in any controversial way. It must be seen as akin to saying I am a democrat...I support free speech....in other words accepted political norms that are rejected only by extremists. Zionism is morally good. Antizionism is extremist. One can express this and remain impartial. Discussing the racist character of the state of Israel is extremist as is suggesting it has committed a genocide. Such statements can be allowed ( the BBC of course believes in free speech) but only if they are vigorously challenged. This is why the BBC has never devoted airtime to a detailed analysis of the reports by the ICJ , Amnesty, HRW and many others that find Israel guilty of apartheid. That would be controversial and possibly endorsing racism. This is why the BBC felt it OK to livestream Israel's defence of the charge of genocide in front of the ICJ but not cover South Africa's case being presented.
So no one should question whether Jo Coburn's now publicly declared Zionist views raise questions about her impartiality. But imagine..God forbid... the reaction if she'd said "Im an anti Zionist Jew and support the motion" .
“[Saying] ‘Zionism is racism’ is offensive, it’s antisemitic and it’s dangerous”
Broadcaster Jo Coburn says she “watched in horror” as the Green Party passed its motion on Zionism and criticises leader Zack Polanski's defence in his #BBCLauraK interview

I am a British Jew and I am proud that Zack, another British Jew, speaks with humanity, courage & clarity on issues concerning Israel/Palestine, whereas so many UK politicians and so much of the UK media is ill-informed, cowardly & immoral
.@ZackPolanski has to explain that conflating Jews with the state of Israel (like the PM did last week) is antisemitic and is making British Jews less safe.

Hart, I was a Zionist for nearly all my life. I actually went to live in Israel and was there for some years. So, you don't need to instruct me about that.
Seeing the reality that, in order to exist, Israel requires the oppression, dispossession and expulsion of Palestinians took me decades. Now that I see it, I can't unsee it.

You could not understand his answer because you don't know what the word Zionist means.
Unless or until you have a common understanding of what it means to be a Zionist, you can ne Er understand the why.
