$MU $SKHY - According to BofA: Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix have developed 4F² over the past 10 years and notes that they don't attempt mass production due to low yelds, fragile cell structures - among other issues. BofA concludes that you should not expect any meaningful production of 4F² from anyone. TLDR: Overreaction/Deepseek 2.0 for HBM memory makers

As my friend Serenity says, this is pure FUD smoke. Hock Tan didn’t call AI investors “casino gamblers.” He said people who sell on one short-term OpenAI ARR datapoint (while ignoring the rest), are the ones gambling. He literally told you last week’s AI sell-off was stupid. Western media took a specific critique of reactive single-datapoint trading and turned it into a broad “AI investors are degenerates” narrative. Moments like this are exactly why we’ve been accumulating cash. Manufactured FUD creates clean dips in high-conviction AI infrastructure names with real multi-year demand visibility. We buy the dip. Not the headline. Stay hard!
So spent some more time to look at more DBS conference material: - "Two semiconductor giants, $AVGO and $INTC, both stated that breakthroughs in AI will keep demand for chip investment elevated for at least another 2 years. As current supply is insufficient to meet market demand." - "Current chip production capacity is already far from sufficient to meet demand, and $AVGO CEO expects the shortage to become even more severe in the future." (HKEJ) - "Regarding OpenAI, Hock Tan stated that the market had misinterpreted the company because its underlying fundamentals remained strong. He argued that investors who sell based on a single short-term data point [$50B ARR] are "essentially no different from people gambling in a casino." (eg. Hong Kong Economic Journal): - Commenting on investors' disappointment in OpenAI’s latest revenue forecast: "by itself, not that bad" on their $50B ARR. (Business Times) And connected investors' disappointment to a failure to understand the business and excessive expectations like a casino. - Tan rejected the proposition that OpenAI was overvalued. It quotes him saying: "It’s almost like they are in a casino gambling" in regards to investors' unrealistic expectations and lack of understanding on OpenAI. - Hock Tan if OpenAI and Anthropic achieve widespread market adoption: their attractiveness would substantially strengthen their bargaining power when raising capital. But cautioned elevated global interest rates could make capital requirements a constraint for future growth. - The real driver, he said, is whether frontier AI companies can create models that generate enough value and returns to justify the buildout. (which is fair) - Most companies are wasting money on tokens. He also warned that most companies just waste money spending tokens like kids in a video arcade. This part was the most badly worded by Hock Tan given he's running $AVGO. But Western media commentary narrowed this down to: - "Shortage of capital now, AI Investors are gamblers". In the conference, Broadcom's CEO was actually defending frontier lab valuations and giving cautiously bullish statements about AI infrastructure demand. While citing rising interest rates as a potential constraint that larger revenue or adoption could overcome. Cherry picking quotes out of context disorts the actual messaging. TLDR: - Large and elevated AI semi demand, semi supply insufficient to meet market demand. At least another 2 years of elevated spend - OpenAI valuations defensible, people who sell based on extreme expectations for the company are like casino gamblers. - Tan stated markets had misinterpreted OpenAI's ARR because its underlying fundamentals remained strong. - Frontier labs if they achieve widespread adoption / revenue would strengthen capital raising, which overpower headwinds from raising interest rates. Lot of $AVGO CEO remarks looks heavily nuanced, which Western media coverage distored.

The biggest chipmakers in the world just teamed up inside the United States. Samsung and SK hynix are founding partners in a $5 billion chip research center in Sunnyvale, California, alongside $TSM, $INTC and $MU. It is Applied Materials' new EPIC Center, which ChosunBiz calls the world's largest joint semiconductor process and equipment research facility. The building covers about 600,000 square feet, with nearly four acres of cleanroom space. $AVGO, Advantest, SCREEN, Kioxia and Besi are joining as partners and Stanford and UC Berkeley will take part in the research too. SK hynix CEO Kwak Noh jung says the company will use it to handle technology changes in HBM, DRAM and NAND. Some will ask why fierce competitors would share a building but it is a fair question, since each one guards its process secrets closely. But here's why it matters because first, the next generations of memory and packaging are so hard that no single company wants to solve them alone. Second, Micron's Sanjay Mehrotra says the center should shorten the time from research to volume production. Third, it puts the most important memory research in the world on United States soil. Memory stocks are getting sold today, but the companies themselves are investing for MUCH bigger demand ahead. Staying bullish here.
TSMC $TSM, ASML $ASML and JPMorgan $JPM all report this week, and each one gives us a different angle on the AI trade. JPMorgan opens bank earnings Tuesday morning, so listen for what Jamie Dimon says about loan demand. ASML reports Wednesday against its own forecast of €11-12B in Q3 sales. It makes the machines that make the most advanced chips. TSMC closes it out Thursday. Its Q3 sales are already out at NT$1.49T, up 51%, so the focus is the Q4 forecast and whether gross margin lands in its 65–67% range.

The Bloomberg headline is sensational. The article reports that he said: “A lot of investors have no clue what they are investing in" and that they “set very extreme expectations only to find out that it’s almost like they are in a casino.” So what is the context of these comments and what "extreme expectations" is he referring to? I believe he is actually referring to investors who sell due to OpenAI revenue missing elevated expectations, when the underlying business is strong.

Wow this is sad to see Korean markets with $SKHY / Samsung crash like this. Special thanks to $AVGO CEO adding fuel the fire… Calling AI investors gamblers and saying enterprise AI isn’t delivering ROI.

Mainstream financial media showing their incompetence again just a week after the FT debacle. Clowns. Clowns.
What Hock Tan actually said, according to Hong Kong's top financial journal: Hock Tan said bluntly that the market misread OpenAI’s revenue figures because the company’s underlying business is strong. Investors who sell on a single short-term data point are “no different from gambling in a casino.”' Source (paywalled in Chinese): hkej.com/dailynews/headline/…

$AVGO CEO: Paper hands people selling at the slightest hint of FUD where the intended target of his scathing criticism as he was responding to last's week's FT article. The manipulation of a quote into the antithesis of its true meaning potentially criminal if ! incompetence.
