Chuck Berry hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with My Ding-a-Ling 54 years ago today, on October 21, 1972, and stayed there for two weeks. After Maybellene, Johnny B. Goode and everything else he gave rock and roll, his only Hot 100 chart-topper was a novelty song Dave Bartholomew wrote back in 1952. Chuck's version was recorded live in Coventry, England, in February 1972. Plenty of radio stations wouldn't touch it, and in Britain Mary Whitehouse tried to get it banned. It went to No. 1 there anyway that November, his first and only UK No. 1, and stayed for four weeks.
🎸 Which Chuck Berry song deserved to be his No. 1? 🎸 👇️

ALT German picture sleeve for Chuck Berry's single My Ding-A-Ling on the Bellaphon label: "My Ding-A-Ling" in green and "CHUCK BERRY" in big pink letters across the top, over a colorful psychedelic illustration of Berry in a patterned jacket playing a red guitar among cartoon cars, flowers and houses. "Let's Boogie" is printed in blue at the bottom.

T. Rex - Tanx - 1973
Tanx was a musical departure from previous works: still containing tracks in the vein of The Slider, Marc Bolan showed his interest for soul music, funk and gospel.
