Congratulations to graduate students Tom Goodwin and Yein Yoon for being awarded poster prizes at the Imagine Membranes conference in Portugal last week!
Congratulations to our first-year graduate student, Brandon Tapia, for passing his qualifying exam for the Program in Polymers and Soft Matter (PPSM)!
Congratulations to Dr. Jing Ying Yeo, who successfully defended her thesis “Understanding the Role of Free Volume in Microporous Polymers for Membrane-based Gas Separations” earlier this month! Jing Ying will begin work as a Senior Research Specialist at Dow later this year.
Congratulations to Dr. Pablo Dean, who successfully defended his thesis “Leveraging Competitive Sorption in Microporous Polymer Membranes to Enhance Gas Separation Performance” at the end of April. We cannot wait to see what he accomplishes next!
Congratulations to Dr. Taehoon Lee on being named a 2025 NAMS Young Membrane Scientist recipient! As a postdoc, Taehoon has made significant contributions to the Smith Lab. He will soon start his faculty career at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in Korea.
Congratulations to Dr. Wan-Ni Wu on a successful thesis defense: “Microporous Polymer-Metal Organic Framework (MOF) Hybrid Materials for Separations”. Wan-Ni has made significant contributions since joining the group in 2019. We wish her the best in her next chapter at Entegris!
Congrats to Dr. Sam Kaser on a successful defense this morning, “Small-molecule motion within and through organic nanomaterials: an anthology”. Sam brought a unique perspective to the group and we are so thankful for his inquisitive, humorous nature. Best of luck at Sora Fuel!
Last week, we celebrated the newly minted Dr. Kayla Storme and Dr. Taigyu Joo, who both recently defended their theses. Kayla and TJ have made meaningful scientific contributions to the group and we are excited to see what's in store for them in the next stage of their careers!
Congratulations to one of our most recent graduates, Dr. Kayla Storme @KaylaStorme , for receiving the 2024 PMSE Future Leader Award at the ACS Meeting in New Orleans!
