"Steppin' Out" was inspired by the excitement of New York nightlife after Joe Jackson moved there following his divorce. The sophisticated synth-pop classic became his biggest US hit, peaking at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The song found a new audience decades later after being featured on the Flash FM radio station in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002). It later reappeared in Grand Theft Auto V/ GTA Online on Los Santos Underground Radio (as part of The Black Madonna’s set), introducing its sleek 1980s sound to yet another generation of players.

57 years ago today, five brothers from Gary, Indiana stepped onto ABCs Hollywood Palace for their first national TV appearance and rewrote the rules of television. Diana Ross introduced an 11 year old Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5, they opened with “Sing a Simple Song,” slid into “Can You Remember,” then dropped their brand new Motown hit “I Want You Back.” In a few electric minutes, the kid with the voice and moves announced that music’s next chapter had arrived. History didn’t just happen that night it sang and danced.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has been very hesitant to fire head coaches during the regular season. - Ray Rhodes wasn’t fired until after the regular season ended in 1998 - Andy Reid wasn’t fired until after the regular season ended in 2012 - Chip Kelly was fired prior to the team’s final regular season game in 2015 - Doug Pederson wasn’t fired until after the regular season ended in 2021 I’d expect Lurie to give current Eagles HC Nick Sirianni the same grace this season. Yet if the Eagles continue to go off the rails with a team captain publicly questioning the team’s “want to,” I’m not sure how much longer Lurie can just sit by and watch it all unfold. It might make sense to give someone else a chance at HC (Clint Hurtt? Jemal Singleton?, etc.) and give first-year OC Sean Mannion full autonomy as the team’s offensive leader.

Hall of Famer Oscar Charleston was born this day in 1896 in Indianopolis, IN. Oscar McKinley Charleston was baseball’s ultimate five-tool prototype long before the term existed. Sportswriters and peers routinely described him as Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, and Babe Ruth rolled into one man. Defense: Stationed in center field, he played shallow enough to catch popups behind the middle infielders, relying on sprinter speed to turn around and track down line drives over his head at the warning track. Later in his career, he shifted seamlessly to first base. Speed: A dominant base stealer who regularly led leagues in swipes, he terrorized defenses on the basepaths with aggressive, hard-nosed slides. Hitting and Power: A left-handed hitter with explosive bat speed, Charleston hit for towering distance to all fields while maintaining a career batting average well above .350 in integrated exhibition and league play. Career Milestones & Dominance Triple Crown Winner (1921): Playing for the St. Louis Giants in the early days of Rube Foster’s Negro National League, Charleston hit .433 with 15 home runs and 91 RBIs, while also leading the league with 35 stolen bases. The 1930s Crawfords Dynasty: As player-manager for Gus Greenlee’s legendary Pittsburgh Crawfords, Charleston led what many historians consider the greatest baseball roster ever assembled, featuring Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, Cool Papa Bell, and Judy Johnson. Exhibition Record Against MLB Stars: In documented exhibition games against white Major League all-star squads featuring pitchers like Walter Johnson and Lefty Grove, Charleston batted over .320 with elite power. Scouting Branch Rickey’s Pioneer Beyond his playing and managerial achievements, Charleston played an instrumental, behind-the-scenes role in integrating Major League Baseball. In 1945, while managing the Brooklyn Brown Dodgers in Branch Rickey’s newly created United States League, Rickey tapped Charleston to evaluate Negro League talent. Charleston thoroughly scouted and recommended a young Kansas City Monarchs shortstop named Jackie Robinson, giving Rickey the essential on-field evaluation that helped launch baseball integration. Charleston was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Negro Leagues Committee in 1976. In Bill James’ Historical Baseball Abstract, James ranked Charleston as the fourth-greatest baseball player of all time, behind only Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, and Willie Mays.

White Chocolate and Randy Moss in a Nike spot together 🙌 They go way back. Both played at DuPont High in West Virginia, where Moss was the state's basketball player of the year twice and averaged 30.2 as a senior. Then both went to Marshall. This came right after their rookie years. Williams had gone seventh overall to Sacramento, and Moss had just caught a rookie record 17 touchdowns in Minnesota.

Sixty-two years ago, on October 14, 1964, Daddy learned that he had been selected to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He was just 35 years old. The honor recognized his leadership in the nonviolent struggle for civil rights. He accepted it on behalf of a movement whose courage and sacrifice had shown the world the power of nonviolence. Daddy’s philosophy calls us to confront injustice, transform unjust systems and affirm the dignity of every human being. It requires courage, discipline and love in action. Sixty-two years later, that work remains urgent. The responsibility to advance it remains ours. We honor my father’s legacy by practicing nonviolence in our daily lives and continuing the work to create the Beloved Community. #MLK #NobelPeacePrize #Nonviolence365 #BelovedCommunity
