This is the kind of pitcher you sign regardless of depth. You can always trade Elmer or Warren to address lineup needs. Morejon is a total dawg out there.
According to Michael Kay, people inside the Yankees organization "love" LHP Adrian Morejon. The Yankees displayed interest in Morejon during the trade deadline, and he's presently a free agent with a Qualifying Offer attached. 2.83 ERA | 2.37 FIP | 58% GB% | 107 SO | 86 IP

Wow, we might have a full season after all
Major League Baseball proposed postponing the implementation of a salary cap until the 2028 season while still putting into place the other elements of its labor offer for 2027, citing the difficulty of teams navigating free agency amid the current uncertainty.

Great idea. Make it happen!
Kiley McDaniel reports that the Yankees are "thinking about" a pursuit of LHP Tarik Skubal, with the idea being that they could sign him and use their surplus of pitching on the trade market. The Dodgers and Mets are the primary bidders for Skubal's services.

Murakami’s approach is way better of a translation to MLB than Sato’s. Yankees would be making a mistake given the contract estimates I’m seeing. Also, he’s not a third baseman. Gotta be cheap to be worthwhile IMO.

80% Z-CON in Japan is not good. In a league which doesn’t throw as hard, that translates meaningfully lower in MLB. This is a Teruaki Sato tweet.

Guarantee you there aren’t that many players as good or better than Jones I’ll die on this hill.
The Yankees could upgrade over Spencer Jones in centerfield according to Jack Curry. His starting job is NOT set in stone the way that it is for George Lombard Jr.

Thinking about this logically… Hal clearly wants a salary cap. Why would he then turn around and spend a lot of money in an offseason where that cap might be implemented? Temper expectations.

I think Luciano is better than Volpe, especially at 2nd 🫢

From a purely baseball perspective, the Yankees absolutely should’ve extended a QO to Jazz. With there being such a dearth of talent in free agency, it’s likely he would’ve declined anyways.

One of the biggest what-ifs had he stayed healthy early in his career. Brutal.
POBO Young: Evan Carter underwent hip surgery; not expected to be ready for start of next season.

I hate that I do, but I kinda like Jose Tena as depth for the Yankees(?)

Godspeed, Joc
Joc Pederson has declined his end of an $18.5 million mutual option and will become a free agent, per @JesseRogersESPN. Pederson, 34, hit 26 HR with an .816 OPS for Texas in 2026.

Reliever?
According to Dan Martin of the NY Post, the Yankees “are among the teams that have scouted” RHP Kaima Taira. He also noted that “several scouts” view him best as a reliever despite his success in 2026 as a starter for the Seibu Lions.

Not everyone needs to lift the ball. In fact, some shouldn’t… like Chandler. Diversity of offensive shape is important.
Chandler Simpson's 8 hits tied Randy Arozarena for the most in a single World Series in franchise history. He showed up when it mattered most, swiped some bags, and played fantastic defense. Here are some of his World Series highlights:

Lance is also in on Taira as a dude. Heck yea
Kaima Taira is fascinating. He has massive extension from a small frame with velo and decent repertoire projection. But is ~4 years, $72 million an overpay for an arm with this level of RP risk? 🤔 Full data dropped last week in my Substack ($): lancebroz.substack.com/p/npb…
