1/ #Privacy #Law Update - Canada's adequacy status in the EU was renewed yesterday (ec.europa.eu/commission/pres…).
This adequacy decision was overdue under the GDPR, with the last adequacy decision issued 15 years prior to the GDPR coming into force (eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-cont…).
3/ - the fact that Bill C-27 is still with the INDU committee while PIPEDA remains outdated (parl.ca/legisinfo/en/bill/44…),
- planned amendments to Bill C-27 have yet to be released (michaelgeist.ca/2023/09/why-…), and
4/ - yesterday's EC report appears to acknowledge that PIPEDA is a work in progress (commission.europa.eu/documen…).
In-house tech lawyers: keep an eye out for the LSO's 14th In-House Counsel Summit, on February 27, 2024. I'll be part of the panel for 'Recent Developments in #GenerativeAI' (updates TBA).

Day 1 of the 2023 #CIO Peer Forum was superb! Some great perspectives from the CIOs of TD Bank, Interac, KFC, Canadian Tire and Norr to name a few. It was a privilege to bump shoulders with the info gov heads at Canada's largest companies.
