Last December, there was a special election in TN-7 and we tried an experiment: What would happen if I stood at the Big Board and narrated the results as they came in? Just the numbers, one county at a time, without punditry, until we got a result. Would anyone watch?
About 750,000 did that night. The response was staggering. So we decided to do it for the entire 2026 primary season - which concluded last night with the RI Gov. primary. 21 livestreams, ranging from last night's 22-minute sprint to the 7+-hour SC/WI marathon of August 11, and more than 40 million views across all of them.
We are trying to reimagine what the election night experience can be. To those who've been watching, your response has served as powerful proof of concept. If you've helped us spread the word (a livestream can be tough to find!), I can't thank you enough. Nor can I adequately express my appreciation for all the folks here at NBC who have made this happen these last 9 months.
Please know that this is just the start. And please let us know what you think -- what worked, what didn't, what could we do to make these better?
