Adjusting for era, Dan Marino's 24.1 PPG (1983-1999) is more impressive than Tua Tagovailoa's 25.9 PPG (2020-present). League avg was ~20.5 PPG in Marino's time (defense-friendly rules), so his offense was +17.6% above avg. Today's avg is ~22.9 PPG (offense-friendly rules), making Tua's +13.1% above avg. Marino excelled more relatively.

Tua’s late interception and responsibility for it has become a thing today. Some blame Tua, others not. Mike McDaniel put it mostly on the QB after the game. You know who didn’t put it on the QB? The QB. Tua actually doubled down and said he’d throw that ball “10 out of 10 times” if he’s looking at the same thing. So it’s disappointing he doesn’t know. And it’s perhaps more disappointing he didn’t take accountability and say something akin to “it’s my responsibility” to not throw that interception.
Was This Tua’s Fault? Didn’t have Emmanuel Acho vs Kurt Warner on my bingo card this year…here’s my view on it ⤵️

Baseline expectation is that Miami wins today. Doesn’t erase last week or the start to the season. Moves the needle 0%. Now, if we beat the Bills, that’s the needle mover and I’ll acknowledge the criticism wasn’t warranted. Just making sure everyone’s on the same page.
