“RIN prices have surged this year as refiners face higher compliance costs under the EPA's ambitious 2026 renewable fuel mandates. The industry has struggled to meet the new obligations, particularly for biomass-based diesel, contributing to tighter credit supplies and higher prices.” @AlexEpstein @FuelingUSJobs @consumerpal @IERenergy @CatoInstitute @AFPMonline

How Much Does the RFS/Ethanol Mandate Cost? From @RBNEnergy "Refiners and other obligated parties must meet Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) requirements, with Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) used to demonstrate compliance. RIN costs have shot higher this year and the reports discussed here estimate renewable volume obligation (RVO) costs at approximately $15/bbl in early September. That is a meaningful expense..."
#Crudeoil may get the headlines, but the #fuels made from it have delivered some of the market’s biggest surprises of 2026. With #supply disruptions, strained #tradeflows and compliance costs all shaping this year’s numbers, let’s look at what goes into a #crackspread and what we can learn from it. ➡️Understanding RINsanity: Why Renewable Fuel Standard compliance costs keep rising We explain what Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) are, how they work, why the industry's "RIN bank" is shrinking and why increasingly aggressive mandates are driving up Renewable Fuel Standard compliance costs. Your shower thought for the day on refining capacity. Small refiners are all running at maximum capacity right now. Almost all of them produce and sell into local markets and neighboring states. We don't have enough of them where we need them. If we had regulatory certainty for investment in smaller refineries - we could avoid this mess in the future. That is all for today....
US Goverment looking to sell the last 40 million barrels from the 172 million barrel SPR exchange announced back in March, but not many buyers looking. June RFP only saw about half a million bought. Oil isn't so much the challenge right now as global refining capacity.

Another suggestion: The renewable-fuel obligation (aka tax) is embedded in wholesale diesel. A broad, time-limited waiver or lower RVO can lower the price by ~37 cents a gallon. Suspend the federal diesel tax (24 cents) and that 61 cents right there. Are you with me, @chuckgrassley?
A suggestion 4 Pres Trump: Since ur hearing frm Big Oil abt diesel prices & the problems w an embargo tell Big Oil 2reduce their prices 4 Americans/not charge global price This is an America 1st issue WHY B ENERGY INDEPENDENT IF WE ARENT GOING 2USE IT WHEN WE NEED IT

The diesel shortage isn’t a result of the U.S. exporting too much fuel. It is a global refining crisis. U.S. refiners are supplying American consumers while cushioning a volatile global market that is driving prices higher at home, writes @mj_sommers on.wsj.com/3V5RyVj

THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION EXPLAINS WHY EXPORT BANS MAKE BAD POLICY, PARTICULARLY ONE ON U.S. DIESEL OIL
Yesterday, we issued a statement opposing new proposals to ban or restrict U.S. diesel exports. “Proposals to ban or restrict U.S. diesel exports are counterproductive. Export bans would not lower energy costs, especially beyond the immediate term, and would instead raise prices, weaken energy security, discourage investment, and undermine America’s reliability as an energy supplier..." “The best thing President Trump can do to lower diesel prices is leave the markets alone and double down on ending the wars in Ukraine and Iran. An export ban will do nothing but disrupt markets and ultimately lead to even higher prices." – @TomJPyle, @IERenergy

diesel trades on a world market, just like corn. farmers don't sell cheaper to Americans, and refiners can't either since they buy crude at global prices. force a lower price and they'll make less diesel. less supply means higher prices, not lower.

California is known for its great fuel and energy policies. 🙅‍♀️🙂‍↔️😉
We applaud @AirResources for its unanimous approval of E15 regulations—our CEO @EmilySkor: “California drivers need relief at the pump and E15 is the easiest way to deliver... CARB has cleared the way for consumers to get access to this more affordable fuel option."

Cutting off American diesel to global markets would be a short-term and long-term mistake. What we need is more domestic refineries. Watch my interview yesterday with @FoxBusiness:

Don't shoot the messenger on this diesel export thing but let's look a little further down the road shall we? Anyone enjoy have fresh strawberries in January? Mexico is the source of 99% of U.S. winter strawberry imports -- meaning the fruit is harvested between November 1 and March 31. It supplements Florida's production. It isn’t just strawberries. In January the tomato, cucumber, pepper, berry, and grape aisle is an import aisle. Mexico sends us about three-quarters of our fresh vegetable imports, and 90% of imported tomatoes. Mexico takes about one-sixth of U.S. diesel exports — roughly 220,000 barrels a day. Latin America as a whole takes on the order of half our diesel exports. Winter grapes are 99% from Peru, Chile, and Mexico. Chile — our No. 2 diesel export customer — is also what puts cherries and blueberries in the store in January. Fresh winter produce is harvested and hauled using diesel powered equipment. We are about to export ban a fuel shock into the countries that stock a good portion of our winter produce sections. A ban on US diesel exports will translate into much higher grocery prices in a few weeks and significant shortages in the fresh produce sections. And with that - The More You Know..... Sources: EIA distillate exports; Atlantic Council (Mexico farm diesel + <6 days cover); El País (U.S. share of Mexican diesel); USITC winter-strawberry case. USDA ERS, “Imports make up growing share of U.S. fresh fruit and vegetable supply”

funny how in 2022 it wasn't gouging, but now suddenly it is. it wasn't then and it isn't now. the data didn't change, you did. that's not integrity, it's convenience.

A US ban on diesel exports would rapidly fill domestic storage, depress the fuel’s prices and ultimately shrink gasoline supply while pushing up costs at the pump, according to Goldman’s co-head of global commodities research. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

.@SecretaryWright’s comments are spot on. An export ban would be counterproductive, make things worse for consumers, and undermine 20 months of the President’s work on his energy dominance agenda. afpm.org/newsroom/blog/why-d…
NEWS: U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Wednesday said a U.S. ban on diesel exports would not work and could push up gasoline and jet fuel prices, putting him at odds with President Donald Trump, who on Tuesday backed the idea as diesel prices have surged to record highs in the United States and Europe amid the wars in Iran and Ukraine.
