The head of the British Army expects every citizen to be ready to make sacrifices.
Citizens will have a role to play in the country's defence and security in the coming months.
General Sir Roly Walker's exact words: We want our citizens to back us and take the fight to the enemy. There is extreme jeopardy in the country today. The business of soldiering is coming back into the nation's psyche.
Sir Roly also warned that the UK's future could depend on its most inexperienced and junior soldiers.
This is the first time in several years a country is forcefully dragging civilians into a war.
