Happening tonight! Join us to learn about Venus and look through a telescope. In-person and live-streamed on YouTube: outreach.astro.caltech.edu
Did Venus once have oceans? Why did Earth's nearest planetary neighbor become such a hellish world? Join us for a lecture by NASA JPL scientist Dr. Amy Hofmann on Sept 18 @ 8PM. Talk followed by stargazing with telescopes. In-person and on YouTube. Free! outreach.astro.caltech.edu

Mercury Transfer Module separation confirmed! 📡 ✅ After nearly eight years in space and billions of kilometres travelled, #BepiColombo's Mercury Transfer Module has successfully separated. Signal acquired via our Cebreros deep-space antenna confirms the spacecraft is healthy and operating as expected. The MPO and Mio spacecrafts are now on their way to Mercury orbit insertion on 21 November. Farewell, MTM. Mercury awaits. ☀️🛰️

Our IXPE telescope found strong evidence to support a 90-year-old quantum theory that suggests the vacuum of space can be altered by extreme magnetic fields. IXPE used its unique X-ray vision on a supermagnetized stellar remnant to test this theory. go.nasa.gov/4fUqmiO

🧵 new discovery on the Sun with the @NatSolarObs @NSF Inouye Solar Telescope managed by @AURADC
Now on @sciam: Behold! These are the sharpest images of the sun's surface ever obtained, and they reveal something *wild*: never-before-seen whirlpools of plasma called Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities that are fundamental to solar energy flow. scientificamerican.com/artic…
