Gen Z romanticizing the 2010s is funny. Millennials didn’t catch the last helicopter out, they graduated into one of the worst job markets in modern American history, spent years underemployed, and finally gained momentum just as housing and living costs exploded. Those who bought homes before 2020 may have escaped the worst of it.

What happens when you die: They divide up your shit. They summarize your life in 500-1000 words. People who knew you less say sorry to people who knew you more. Everyone eats, drives home, and wakes up the next day and goes to work. Whatever you’re worried about won’t be in those 500 words. You can dare greatly or not at all, but you’re gonna die either way. Might as well squeeze every motherfucking drop out.

No one actually “loves their country”. You don’t love a border regime, a legalistic formulation of state sovereignty. You love something abstract about that formulation which you project onto it. Which is normal. I just wish more people understood this and acted accordingly

Honestly feel like this trend has to do more with lots of people in tech being fairly uncultured than anything else. Successful people in finance often have these high cultural taste hobbies like art collecting or fine wines or literature. Extremely rare in tech to see someone with that kind of interest. And I think that manifests itself physically in these low taste spaces that they curate. But it gets painted as a virtue to cope
