[@OnceALeader] STARTER
In the midst of the battle, only one thing is at the forefront of Yumiko’s mind, and that is the very real possibility that she will never see Magna again. Either she will die in this fight, or the woman she loves had already died —
[@OnceALeader] — light being the moon shining through the broken glass window adjacent to them. Still, Yumiko is able to see the deep red blood coating the woman she loves. She cannot tell if it is hers, or the dead’s.
“Are you hurt?” Yumiko asks, tenderly —
[@OnceALeader] — tucking a strand of tangled hair behind the other woman’s ear. A moment of hesitation passes, the two women’s gazes glued to one another. “Where’s Connie?” she asks, her voice hoarse, afraid to hear the answer. “What happened in that cave?”
[@OnceALeader] — moving,” she eventually acknowledges, reluctantly pulling back from the embrace, though her hands linger on the other woman’s hips. “We aren’t safe here. The sickos could have followed us, or worse, the skin freaks,” Yumiko reminds Magna as —
[@OnceALeader] — she retrieves her previously discarded weapon. “We have to find some kind of shelter, at least until the sun comes up.”
[@OnceALeader] — that doesn’t mean a few stragglers hadn’t broke off and followed her into the woods.
At that thought, Yumiko hears the distinct sound of a twig snapping beneath the weight of someone. Instincts kick in and the woman whips around the tree —
[@OnceALeader] — trunk, her loaded bow aimed at her lover’s head. “Magna...” she breathes out in relief, her weapon lowering. “It’s really you...”
[@OnceALeader] — the woman is coated in dried blood.
The Hilltop is a lost cause, Yumiko decides as she watches the structures around her begin to crumble. She has to flee if she wants to live, even if that means leaving Magna behind. All she can do is —
[@OnceALeader] — hope that the woman she loves is still alive, and that she had seen Yumiko run for the trees.
