It Has to Be Built — Pastor Mensa Otabil’s Powerful Call to Complete Ghana’s National Cathedral
Description
At the Bible in the Pan-African Imagination conference on August 10, 2026, Pastor Mensa Otabil shared a powerful and unscripted conviction with more than 190 people gathered at Christ Temple after listening to architect Sir David Adjaye explain the extensive research and African cultural thinking behind the design of Ghana’s National Cathedral.
Pastor Otabil said:
“It has to be built. The church must ensure that it is built. It is a witness to Christ in our nation.”
He went on to describe the project not simply as a cathedral, but as “a concept” and “an idea,” expressing his belief that, when completed, it could become one of Ghana's most significant attractions and bring visitors from around the world.
He thanked Sir David Adjaye for the depth of thought and research behind the design, declaring:
“We cannot waste this effort.”
Sir David, standing humbly beside him, received Pastor Otabil's words.
I was there. I heard these words firsthand, and I have the original recording.
This moment is part of my seven-day national conversation:
GHANA BEYOND THE NEXT ELECTION
Can we separate the vision from the politics, acknowledge what went wrong, demand accountability—and still ask what this project could become for Ghana?
Watch. Listen. And decide for yourself.
Wealth is more than money, it is the product of wisdom, stewardship, vision, discipline, diligence, favor, opportunity and God's empowering grace.
Proximity to wealth proved thinner than the kindness of those who owed me neither loyalty nor lineage.
Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding, it is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self, therefore trust the physician and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility
