Anyone who has negotiated with any official from Russia - and I have, on a smaller scale - knows they don’t “do” concessions. If they appear to, they will eventually not concede.

Recognizing occupied territories as russian rewards aggression, fuels historical revisionism, and invites more wars. This short-sighted decision has potential to disrupt global trade and cost the world far more than supporting Ukraine with military aid and financial assistance.
1⃣De Facto vs. De Jure Control
There is indeed a major difference between Ukraine not being able to physically control its occupied territories at the moment and officially surrendering them to russia. The former is a temporary military reality, while the latter would be a political decision with long-term consequences.
2⃣Precedent of UN Charter Violation
Officially recognizing russia’s annexation would legitimize a blatant violation of international law, particularly Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits acquiring territory through force. Such an outcome would erode the very foundation of international security, opening the door for other revisionist powers to justify their own land grabs. Examples include China in Taiwan or future russian expansions.
3⃣Punishment and Deterrence
Even if russia controls the occupied lands, the continued sanctions and non-recognition serve as an economic, political, and diplomatic "scar" that reminds russia and the world that aggression has costs. While not an immediate deterrent, this strategy has historical precedent. The United States and its allies never recognized the Soviet annexation of the Baltic states between 1940 and 1991, which helped lay the groundwork for their eventual independence. Keeping the issue unresolved and russia diplomatically isolated creates long-term uncertainty for russia’s control over the territories.
4⃣Legitimization Undermines Sanctions and Encourages More Aggression
If the world were to recognize the annexation, it would send contradictory signals. On one hand, punishing russia with sanctions, but on the other, validating its actions. This would further embolden russian expansionism by reinforcing the idea that military force is a viable path to territorial gains. Internally, in russia, such recognition would be perceived as a victory, fueling further nationalist sentiment and justifying future invasions. Possible targets could include Moldova, Kazakhstan, or even deeper into Ukraine.
5⃣The Dangerous Lesson of Rewarding Aggression
The ultimate lesson from history is clear. If aggression is rewarded, it becomes a national strategy. This pattern was evident with Hitler’s early territorial gains in the 1930s, such as the Rhineland, Austria, and the Sudetenland. Each unchallenged move emboldened him further. A similar pattern is visible with russia, beginning with Georgia in 2008, then Crimea in 2014, and culminating in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Ukraine and the international community must remain firm in not recognizing the annexation and maintaining pressure on russia. While physical control may change over time, legal recognition must remain steadfast to avoid setting a dangerous precedent that rewards aggression and undermines global stability.
This is why continued military support, sanctions, and non-recognition of annexation are essential, not just for Ukraine, but for the integrity of the international order.

The head of the proven and court-confirmed extreme far-right and Nazi AfD party Alice Weidel, who Elon Musk says is the only one that will save 🇩🇪 Germany, shouted in a party meeting aggressively:
"When we are in power, we will tear down all wind turbines. Down with these windmills of shame!"
Elon supports a party that is not only against all forms of renewable energies but believes that Germany should buy oil and gas from 🇷🇺 Russia again and he supports a politician who promises that if they were in power, all existing wind turbines would be torn down.
What the heck has become of Elon that he supports such politicians?!

FACT CHECK: When Putin invaded, the White House also believed he'd conquer Ukraine in a matter of days, which is why the US pressured Zelensky to flee Kyiv.
Kyiv still stands only because Zelensky refused.
We shouldn't celebrate our catastrophic intelligence failures like this.

Russia is a warzone even if Putin wants to call it a special operation of getting invaded. All international flights landing west of Siberia need to start considering this. Especially with how many friendly fighter jets Russia shoots down during non drone attacks

So when Israel kills large numbers of civilians to assassinate a terrorist leader it’s okay, but when Ukraine—who’s fighting two nuclear powers alone—kills a Russian general in uniform with no innocent bystander deaths it’s wrong? Utterly clownish by Kellogg here.

More gas being needed some of the time seems to be more bullish than more gas being needed all of the time. I’ll never understand this logic. It’s as if intermittency is a newly discovered concept each time it occurs in this perpetual game of renewables gotcha. #ONGT

To be clear -- this is just a snapshot when renewables arent available
UK overall renewables output is rising. Coal was recently phased out
Depending more on cleaner-burning gas, as opposed to coal, during periods of low wind/solar also results in lower emissions

🇸🇾 Syria's Assad Regime supported by 🇷🇺 Russia has tortured and killed people even right before their fall a few days ago.
The Sednaya prison, locally known as “the human slaughterhouse”, was the most notorious torture complex of the Syrian government’s vast network of detention centers.
Bodies have been found with eyes gouged out, teeth pulled out, systematic raping, electroshocks, and worse.
Russia has set up torture centers in the occupied 🇺🇦 Ukrainian territories too where the prisoners, e.g. Ukrainian men who do not want to fight for 🇷🇺 Russia against their homeland, are enduring similar cruelty.
The atrocities will only stop when the dictators are disempowered and deprived of the opportunity to commit their atrocities, and that does not happen when you freeze a conflict and think you have a ceasefire or even peace because some agreements have been signed.

If the international community wants to rescue some credibility with #Syria’s people, it should send specialists to #Sednaya Prison in #Damascus immediately — there are 100s, possibly 1000s of prisoners stuck 2-3 layers underground, behind electronic locks & concealed doors.
