This feels a bit like when a video game starts catering to the top 1% of ranked players. Very MrBeast-coded, and pretty disconnected from the raw, less optimized side of YouTube.
OH MY GOD!
Massive thank you to @malikshelp

Most YouTubers make their money off brand integrations at $15-$20 CPM.
This is under the assumption watch duration doesn't drop below 38%
Inflating views will destroy average watch duration and upend the one way YouTubers actually make money.
1000 views will no longer be 1000 above 38% watch duration. 1000 views could now mean 500 people saw one frame while it autoplayed.
This means 1000 views is no longer worth $15-$20.
Agencies will either have to recalculate what 1000 views is worth or start offering flat rates that are far less competitive.
Please reverse this decision @TeamYouTube, people who post long videos infrequently (the main value-add of YouTube compared to other social media platforms) will be disproportionately harmed by this change.
long form creators like @EmperorLemon @WereInHellYT @Solar_Sas, and myself rely on a stable ad integration model to do YouTube full time. Creators like us are the only reason your platform still has such a good reputation.
YouTube will count views from the first frame across all formats starting on August 24, 2026.

ALT Last year, we updated how we count public views for Shorts to better capture how viewers watch on YouTube. Now, we’re aligning all other video formats to this same standard for consistency across the platform. Beginning on 8/24/2026, a view will be counted the moment a video begins to play—from the very first frame. This standard will now apply globally across all formats. Historically, we’ve used multiple view counting systems across different formats. However, we’ve heard that creators want to eliminate this metric confusion and accurately understand their true exposure, which is why we’re making this update!
We had the original Xbox, but by the time I was old enough to play shooting games, we had already owned a PS3 for several years at that point. Halo was very out of sight and out of mind by then. Then I got hooked on multiplayer games and didn't have the attention span for single player campaigns. That's the reason why I never did any PvE in Destiny 1. Once MCC came out I tried a tiny bit of multiplayer but just never bothered with a playthrough of the story.
I'm on my hands and knees, begging for a liquid cheeseburger. Can you help me? @MarathonTheGame
Replying to @Josh_Hamrick
@Josh_Hamrick hey Josh. I’m not sure if you remember me, but I wanted to apologize for the way that I behaved on social media during Destiny 1. It wasn’t fair to you or your team. I’m eternally grateful for the experience that you guys made.
My time spent competing in Destiny 1 feels like a lifetime ago. What I do now is so far removed from competition. I miss it. I miss the people. Not a lot of us keep in touch.
