In case you missed it first time around, here is the first ever mythology in FF Resonance post I shared. Very minor spoilers for the start of the game. Enjoy… Like its predecessor, Brave Exvius, Final Fantasy Resonance draws significantly from classical mythology and history. It is especially rich with references to the Roman era, often with a twist. An early example of this occurs after Rain and Lasswell encounter Veritas of the Dark and they decide to take a detour to their hometown of Mitra. At Mitra, the heroes discover a secret portal to the Farplane, where the Will of Light sets them on their adventure. The gods of pre-Christian Rome are typically thought of as the pantheon assimilated from Ancient Greek, the chief of which was Jupiter. However, various other religions existed, too, and one of these was a mystery cult dedicated to Mithra. Worship of this deity – who was alternatively known as ‘Mitra’ – had originated in Persia and he was believed to be the embodiment of truth, justice, covenants, friendship, and light. It’s unlikely to be a coincidence that the town of Mitra is where the childhood friends Rain and Lasswell grow up and are subsequently destined by the divine Will of Light to form bonds with the visions. Furthermore, the term ‘Veritas’ is Latin for ‘Truth’… but I’ll come back to that another time.

Naoki Hamaguchi says the locations from the FF7 Rebirth will change due to the Black Materia to make them feel fresh in FF7 Revelation! "So first, this connects back to what I was saying. If you take the grasslands as an example, they were big, expansive, but relatively flat. That was one kind of exploration you had in the previous game, the previous time you visited there. In Revelation, you have the Chocobo that will allow you to fly, go to new places and just have a really different sense of the area. But of course, exploring exactly the same place is a little boring. At quite an early point in the story of Revelation, the Black Materia takes effect and Meteor appears in the sky, and this causes the ground and the earth to change. So there will be changes to terrain in some of these previous places. Of course, there will be similar quests that you can undertake as a mercenary, as in previous games. People are obviously a little bit uneasy with the weapons, with Meteor in the sky. So there'll be lots of things and quests that you can do to help them and resolve those issues. So I think there's three points there. The terrain will be different, there'll be new ways of exploring the area, and there'll also be a lot of new content.
