Yesterday, my son spent a good three hours sulking. He would probably sulk more if he read this! In my latest blog post, I explore kiddo anger and what it triggers within me. Give it a read: abstractthoughtsofdee.wordpr…

This past weekend, thousands of anti-government protesters were arrested in New Delhi. A movement that began several months ago, and was initially focussed on demands to reform India’s education system, has now centered itself around the government’s decision to remove more than 100 million people from the country’s voter rolls. “By sheer numbers, this is one of the largest-ever exercises of disenfranchisement in the history of the world,” Yogendra Yadav, an activist and political scientist says. Read Isaac Chotiner’s full conversation with Yadav about the widespread unrest in Narendra Modi’s India and the aggressive action taken by a panic-stricken regime that knows it is losing popularity: newyorker.com/news/q-and-a/i…

It is very distressing that these accusations have primarily targeted writers of non-Western backgrounds. It's horrible and I wish someone would take it up legally. 3/3

I've read many published stories from b4 AI which were tonally & stylistically cliché & doing nothing original or exciting at all. It's possible to dislike a story or dismiss it as average without resorting to AI accusations, which is a moral issue rather than a skill issue. 2/3

The problem is that these AI hounds seem to think a piece of writing cannot be cliché or mediocre or sylistically similar to others or thematically tired without having been written by AI. 1/3

To think of the repercussions one meticulously reported piece by the Indian Express has caused, just imagine if the Indian press had done this across the last 12 years where we would be.

At least 16 journalists were brutally detained while covering public demonstrations in #India. In addition to the four journalists already mentioned, RSF has learned that Anushka Bhardwaj (#BusinessStandard), Hritik Joshi and Rahul Charas (@NavbharatTimes), Shoaib Daniyal (#Scroll), Anshu (@newslaundry ), Saurabh Sharma (@Reuters ), Jagriti Trisha (BOOM), Shivang Shukla (Mo), Neeraj Jha (@moliticsindia), and freelance journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta were also forcibly detained in #Delhi, along with Kinjal (@AltNews) in #Ahmedabad and Divya Aslesha (Scroll) in #Pune.
Covering events of public interest is not a crime. It is their job. The police's actions against the press are unacceptable.

You can choose not to believe Tanushree Dutta. But you cannot claim that court gave Nana Patekar clean chit. That is not what the order says. A case not proceeding because of a limitation bar is not the same thing as a judicial finding that the alleged conduct never occurred.
Someone back home is also exhibiting similar behaviour since 2014.

Live breaking news: a section within the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent of India’s right-wing, Hindu nationalist ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign immediately. A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the CEC had become an embarrassment for the government led by prime minister Narendra Modi after lying to the Supreme Court of India. He said that the CEC had botched up the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls. Even the name of the former Deputy Prime Minister of India Lal Krishna Advani had been left out of the voter roll and this was unpardonable, my source added. Things are clearly become hotter for the government.

Love how FOMO has inspired Indians to join protests like never before. It used to take protests much longer to get to this stage, though we did see it during the anti-CAA-NRC protest too. This time, Insta videos of Gen Z protestors, depicting the JOY of rebellion is the trigger
