After years of constant warfare we’ve finally achieved victory over the Texas fire ant.
Supplies:
- 1x 36 inch PVC pipe
- 1x 500 ml bottle of 99% alcohol
- 1x funnel
- 1 Liter Bottle
- 1x rubber mallet
Tactic:
Mix equal parts of 99% alcohol/water in bottle. Sharpen one end of PVC pipe and cork sharp end. Drill passthrough holes in the 6 inches above sharp end. Mallet PVC pipe at least 12 inches into center of ant bed. Place funnel in PVC pipe. Pour water bottle into funnel.
Summary:
This fumigates the ant bed and instantly kills the queen(s). The alcohol evaporates in under ~ 10 minutes without significant harm to soil/plants. Non toxic. Ants dead. Declare victory.

Fire ants sleep, but not the way people do.
A 2009 study of red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) in artificial nest chambers found clear sleep-like states. Researchers identified them by posture, reduced responsiveness, and a distinctive antennal twitch.
Workers take many tiny naps: about 253 episodes a day, each averaging 1.1 minutes, for a total of roughly 4.8 hours of sleep. They never all rest at once. At any moment about 80% of the workforce is still active (grooming, feeding, or excavating), so the colony never shuts down.
Queens sleep more and more deeply: about 92 episodes a day, each averaging 6 minutes, totaling about 9.4 hours. In multi-queen colonies they pile together and their sleep cycles synchronize.
During deeper sleep both workers and queens fold their antennae, stop responding when other ants touch them, and show rapid antennal movement (RAM) that researchers have compared to REM sleep in vertebrates.
Sleep posture looks different from waking posture. Day/Night cycles do not control the pattern; fire ants live mostly underground, so activity continues around the clock.
The short, staggered naps of workers keep the nest running continuously. Queens, protected and focused on reproduction, can afford longer rest. This is the main scientific picture we have for fire ants specifically; other ant species show similar polyphasic rest.
Having children is a developmental milestone for human beings. Just like puberty is a developmental milestone. People who never achieve marriage/children/family will never understand what it means to be human. They will live an entire life ignorant of the human condition.
My money is on an architectural device for running rope/lines to measure distance/dimensions. Roman legions never camped without constructing defensive positions which had exact measures for carpentry/construction. These little dodecahedron functioned similarly to a modern measuring tape. People will say, “There is no method to empirically measure consciousness, therefore any statements about AI consciousness is not an empirical statements.”
That is a false statement. Biological consciousness (the only known category of consciousness) can be observed/measured/quantified as a homeostatic function. Because consciousness serves a homeostatic function for the biological substrate.
LLM output is completely partitioned from the homeostatic function of the silicon substrate. Therefore the probability of LLM’s having the capacity for consciousness is asymptotically close to zero.

Chinese researchers open-sourced a new paradigm that lets LLMs communicate without generating a single word.
It’s called Cache-to-Cache (C2C) communication.
right now, when multiple ai agents work together, they are forced to translate their internal "thoughts" into human text tokens just to pass a message. this loses rich semantic meaning and causes massive token-by-token latency.
So, instead of spitting out words, c2c uses a neural network to directly project and fuse the source model's "kv-cache" right into the target model. it is pure, direct semantic communication.. they even added a learnable gating mechanism to select exactly which layers benefit most from the cache transfer.
the benchmark results are actually crazy:
- avoids all intermediate text generation latency
- accuracy jumps by up to 14.2% compared to individual models
- beats traditional text-based agent communication by over 5%
- delivers a massive 2.5x speedup in overall speed
we are literally watching llms bypass human language to build their own silent, high-speed neural network..
