#CommunityEnergy is a vital part of a #JustTransition and a sustainable future for us all. Could there be a project for #Torry? Lets talk, Thursday 29 October, 7pm, Geryhope Hub.

Its Ok to not be Ok.
Suicide and men. New suicide figures have been published by @ONS: 5,738 suicides were registered for England in 2025. 75% were in men. 1 in 65 men die by suicide. Sometimes when I'm invited to talk about mental health, I ask a question at the end. "How many of you (mixed crowd) struggle with mental health issues?". Maybe one or two in a room of a couple of hundred. Then when everyone leaves, often 10-20 guys will come over and say "I do". Men still have a problem opening up about their mental health, all ages, because the message society still sends is, "it's weakness". October, for some reason is the worst month of the year for me. I go from running 20kph and flying through summer ( well, better than October) to what I can only describe is a descent into every mental health stereotype. Anxiety Fear No energy ( chronic) Hypersomnia ( 28 hours isn't uncommon) Insomnia Suicidal ideation And then the voice pops up. "You could end this here and now ". It's really difficult to explain to anyone who's never had suicidal ideation what it exactly is. Because I run and keep fit I "know" my fitness will pull me through, but many are stuck in a cycle. Maybe use food or alcohol to look for a dopamine hit ( serious mental health issues literally take away your ability to feel anything, an omnipresent numbness), maybe drugs, maybe exercise, maybe work, many even cut themselves to try to feel something. In that context, saying" I'll end it here and now " becomes a relief. It's certainly no cry for help because you've mostly already tried everything and still the black dog comes. Right now I'm at the gym, forced myself to push through but I know a 28 hour sleep may be incoming and that "why don't you..." voice starts to get louder. I've put this out there over 20 years on here so thus isn't for any purpose other than to show that someone who's in the top 1% of health and fitness is as prone to this quite frightening drop off, seemingly from nowhere, so if this is you, you have that voice, then know it's an illness that strikes many, and unfortunately takes a few along the way. I'm lucky, many took the literal leap because the fear is all consuming. There us help, lots of charities I here @MindBodySoleUK @MindCharity @CharitySANE are but a few. But those stats at the top are sobering, and are holding steady. If someone you know is struggling or you think they are, please reach out to them. If you are struggling, please reach out to friends and family.

Chaos at @AberdeenCC Finance meeting as the #SNP try to gerrymander the refurbishment of schools. They overturned the vote, then refused to answer any questions, then threw the Labour councillors out. Its a complete absence of meaningful democracy.

Working in schools is one of the toughest of jobs. Spending some time recently with staff has left me in awe of the professionalism and decidation of our teachers and support staff. Respect!

Another glorious Aberdeen afternoon as @CoveRangersFC entertain the high flying @RossCounty. Keep football live!

The next council meeting, at short notice next Wednesday, is 'in-person only', which in my experience of the last 4+ years is unprecedented. This is getting silly, but also quite undemocratic. The @theSNP will go to any lengths to save @Christia_Allard job as council leader.

On October 6th @aberdeen_ucu members and others are protesting outside Aberdeen University against cuts to higher education. Please join them!

Some ask why I’m standing again. The answer is simple: our children deserve better. Aberdeen has great schools and dedicated staff, yet under the SNP pupils continue to fall behind England in science, maths and reading. I’m standing to fight for our schools and our kids

Reform UK has received a cash injection of £72m in just 24 hours. The two donations, from crypto-currency billionaires are jointly the largest donations made to a UK political party. All parties get donations, but not on this scale. This cannot be right.

That's a small victory for the people of #Torry . @AberdeenCC has just passed a motion to support the remaining #raac housing owners, and of no confidence in council co-leader and Torry councillor, Christian Allard.

I, and Labour and Independent colleagues, have called an emergency council meeting for 2.30pm on Friday (4 Sept) to demand a fair deal for the remaining Balnagask residents. But we also need to debate whether the SNP councillors for the area are fit to carry on!

An apt day to remember that Dolly Parton once recorded a cover of Stairway to Heaven - and, in defiance of every moral law in the universe, she absolutely owned it.

A storyteller of peoples lives, a true hero and a wonderful human being.
I'm really saddened to read this 😟. She was a music 🎸 star but, more importantly, an amazing human being. BBC News - bbc.co.uk/news/live/c0ry0yzx… Dolly Parton, legendary US country singer, dies aged 80 - BBC News

What a complete disgrace! My amendment to properly support the remaining residents of #RAAC affected houses in Balnagask was defeated 21-22 by the #SNP at @AberdeenCC today. The administration have tin ears, a brass neck and hearts of stone.

Israel is guilty of “ethnic cleansing” in Jerusalem by forcing Palestinian families to leave homes they’ve lived in for generations, according to one of the country’s best-known lawyers. Israeli authorities deny wrongdoing, telling Sky News the homes had no planning permission and will be replaced. Sky's @AdamParsons investigates what is happening to the Silwan neighbourhood.
