Imagine the reaction of American media and politicians if this story was about Russia, China, or Iran. They want you to believe foreign interference is normal as long as it’s Israel interfering.

The wife of the government’s national security advisor has called for the ban on Palestine Action to be lifted, days after police said they would take no action over a social media post she wrote that was seen by some as an expression of support for the group. Last week Sarah Helm, a journalist and author, wrote on X, “God help us authors who support Palestine and Palestine Action.” The post was a reference to the fact Irish novelist Sally Rooney can no longer sell her books in the UK due to her support for the group. On Monday, after the police’s announcement about her post, Helm wrote that she was “free… and found not guilty of posting a terrorist tweet, whereas others guilty of holding terrorist banners? So where do I sign the letter calling for such absurdity to halt and for Palestine Action to be unbanned under the Terrorism Act?” Helm was referring to an open letter signed by over 400 literary figures in support of Rooney and calling for the ban to be lifted. The Metropolitan Police on Saturday said specialist officers had assessed Helm’s earlier X post and “determined that it did not meet the criminal threshold”. Helm’s husband, Jonathan Powell, has served in the senior Cabinet Office role since 2024. After its proscription under the Terrorism Act 2000 in July last year, expressing support for Palestine Action is a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison. Thousands, including many elderly and disabled people, have been arrested while holding signs reading: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.” Following the Met’s decision to take no action against Helm, George Sheldon Grün, a Green councillor in Hackney, published a post on Instagram reading: “God help us councillors who support Palestine and Palestine Action.” Last year, retired head teacher Jon Farley was arrested in Leeds under the Terrorism Act for holding a printout of a cartoon from Private Eye that mocked the Palestine Action ban. He was held for six hours before being told no further action would be taken. "I couldn't quite believe it was happening,” he told the BBC at the time. "They carried me to the van and all the way I'm saying, 'It's a cartoon from Private Eye. This is daft'". In July 2025, armed police in Kent threatened to arrest peaceful protester Laura Murton for holding a Palestine flag and having signs that read “Free Gaza” and “Israel is committing genocide”. Police told Murton that her protest expressed views supportive of Palestine Action, even though her signs did not mention the group. They made her give her name and address in order to avoid arrest. Earlier this year, campaigners said police arrested people who had not broken the law by showing or stating support for the group during a demonstration outside Westminster magistrates’ court. “I clapped. That was it,” one woman, who said she had been arrested under section 12 of the Terrorism Act, told Novara Media at the time, “I was here just to watch.”

🔴 Settler pogroms targeting medical personnel in the West Bank are neither a coincidence nor random. 📌 Israeli forces in Gaza targeted and killed 1,723 doctors and medical personnel (Gaza Gov't Media Office). 📌 The Israeli occupation currently holds 95 Palestinian health care workers hostage in Israel’s notorious dungeons (Healthcare Workers Watch). Among them are Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and Dr. Marwan Al-Hams, who endure brutal torture and humiliation. 📌 The Israeli occupation wants to continue the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians without obstruction.
The violence experienced by our colleague, barriers to reaching medical care and growing restrictions imposed on Palestinian communities are not coincidental. Read our statement: doctorswithoutborders.ca/pal…

At least six Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip since dawn on Tuesday, as Israel continues to violate the so-called US-backed ceasefire. The victims include a couple killed in an Israeli strike on their apartment in Gaza City while they were sleeping, and a child killed by Israeli gunfire in southern Gaza.

“The fence was built, so they fenced him in too”, soldier testimony from the West Bank 🔽 In the early 2000s, Israel constructed the Separation Barrier around the West Bank, cutting off roughly 9% of its territory and effectively annexing the area between the barrier and the Green Line into Israel. Palestinians trapped on the “Israeli” side of the barrier were granted no legal status. Instead, they’re treated as unwanted “aliens” in their own land, forced to cross the barrier and navigate the complex bureaucracy of the permit system just to reach their homes or farms. This soldier describes the level of procedural absurdity this policy imposes on Palestinians. “There’s a guy whose name is Nijam. He’s Palestinian. His house is like in the middle of nowhere, but his house is on the Israeli side [of the Separation Barrier], which is near Giv’on (an Israeli settlement). This guy, in order to get into his house, would call the operations room to have the gate opened for him. He has no control over the gate that opens and closes to his house. He has to call the operations room. Interviewer: What do you mean? Soldier: His house is on the Israeli side. His house is fenced in. He wasn’t moved from there, the fence was built, so they fenced him in too. Instead of just giving him citizenship, or leaving him be. Nijam Faqia, I think, was his name. So he would call the operations room every morning, say ‘Hello, this is Nijam, I want to enter my house.’ The operations room would call the Border Police officers in the area, and they would open the gate for him. Crazy. Interviewer: How many times? Soldier: Once a day, twice a day.” Rank: First Sergeant | Unit: The Civil Administration Area: Ramallah and al-Bireh area | Period: 2013 Find more testimonies from soldiers who have served in the occupied Palestinian territories on our website. Since 2004, we have collected, verified, and published thousands of testimonies. If you have served in the occupied Palestinian territories, break your silence. Help end the occupation.
