Twenty-five years after 9/11, Sikhs are *still* being targeted and profiled for how we look. Millions of Sikhs in the United States have the last name Singh, which means lion. We remain fearless in identifying as Sikhs—even when our government portrays us as enemies.

No one should fear for their safety while gathering in sacred spaces of worship, community, or belonging. We mourn alongside the victims’ families, the Muslim community in San Diego, and all those impacted by this act of violence.

At a time when hate incidents against South Asian communities are surging, and one in four Americans view Chinese Americans as a threat, amplifying this kind of bigotry pours fuel on an already dangerous fire and must be unequivocally condemned. nytimes.com/2026/04/23/us/po…

Ogles’ Muslim‑ban bill + saying Muslims “don’t belong” = a Constitutional oath violated and communities targeted for hate. Muslim, South Asian, Arab & other communities deserve safety, not persecution. If we allow discrimination today, it spreads tomorrow.

ICE & DHS are echoing white supremacist rhetoric & using masked, unmarked raids like extremist groups. This fuels hate & endangers communities. End masked raids. Require clear ID. Confront extremism. Transparency isn’t optional. bit.ly/3XeZyCy 📸: DHS/Getty Images

The remarks that Rep. Wu has faced for standing up for democracy is shameful. They are an example of using racism to question allegiances based on ethnicity and are a dangerous attempt to incite hate and distract from the fight against redistricting in TX. tinyurl.com/jesdnw9a

Like our friends at @sikh_coalition, we are concerned about the statement shared by Indian American lawmakers regarding the attempted assassination of a Sikh American in New York: xitter.cf/sikh_coalition/status/…
We express concerns regarding the statement released by Indian American Reps on the indictment of an Indian national's alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting several Sikhs in the US and Canada in coordination with an Indian govt employee and criminals. bera.house.gov/news/document…

American Sikhs, including the @sikh_coalition, have expressed concerns with a statement from the "Indian American Members of Congress" concerning India's transnational repression against Sikh Americans. "Praising a foreign government to investigate itself for human rights violations is insufficient to ensure accountability. This leaves unaddressed the broader concerns of Sikhs and other religious minority diaspora communities who are facing a global suppression campaign," the Sikh Coalition shares in a series of tweets. "We believe that the narrow focus of the press release, without addressing the broader pattern of targeting against Sikhs engaged in lawfully protected expressions of speech, is a significant oversight," they add. The statement from U.S. Representatives Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Ro Khanna (CA-17), Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08), and Shri Thanedar (MI-13) comes after receiving a classified briefing "from the Biden Administration on the indictment of Nikhil Gupta in connection with a foiled plot to assassinate a U.S. citizen in New York City." The Indian American Members of Congress statement in full: "We appreciate the Administration providing us a classified briefing on the Department of Justice’s indictment of Nikhil Gupta, which alleges that an Indian government official engaged in a murder-for-hire plot of an American citizen. As Members of Congress, the safety and well-being of our constituents is our most important priority. The allegations made in the indictment are deeply concerning. We welcome the Government of India’s announcement of a Committee of Enquiry to investigate the murder plot and it is critical that India fully investigate, hold those responsible, including Indian government officials, accountable, and provide assurances that this will not happen again. We believe the U.S. – India partnership has made meaningful impact on the lives of both of our people, but we are concerned that the actions outlined in the indictment could, if not appropriately addressed, cause significant damage to this very consequential partnership."

As a member of the American Sikh Congressional Caucus, I stand with the Sikh community against hate & political violence. Sikhs deserve to live in peace in America & worldwide, free from political persecution. I’m concerned by reports that India’s government is targeting Sikh activists abroad & will seek to learn more as a member of the Committee on Homeland Security. I will work with local & federal government officials to ensure necessary actions are undertaken to protect the Sikh community.

To all those Indians here on this thread who say the assassination was justified, what evidence can you show? Was that presented to Canada as a legal matter? There is a process for bringing someone to justice.
Assassinating someone in a free country is a non-starter unless you want to become a pariah - like China or Russia.
