Sierra Leone has strengthened health screening at its international airport and land borders following reports of Ebola cases in Kenya and Nigeria. The National Public Health Agency says it is working with the Ministry of Health and other institutions to detect suspected infections and prevent the virus from entering the country. The agency is monitoring an outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola linked to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Reports indicate that confirmed cases have been recorded in Kenya and Nigeria. Travellers arriving from affected countries are being screened and monitored. Health officials have also urged travellers to report their health conditions and any possible contact with infected persons. The public has been advised to watch for symptoms such as fever, weakness, headache, vomiting and diarrhoea. Anyone who develops symptoms after possible exposure should call 117 immediately, avoid close contact with others and follow instructions from health officials. The agency says there is no confirmed Ebola case in Sierra Leone in the notice provided.
