Time for yearlings to TCs for breaking and early development for racing. Half to Fisher in Ocala. Half to Highlander in TX. In late spring/early summer 27 the 2 yos go to track. Baby issues galore. Some fail. Some race, others need time. OP is the 28 target for these.
Takes time.
On 9/7, Chambersville runs at Colonial Downs in New Kent Co VA. In 1690 our ancestor Mark Anthony migrated from England to New Kent Co. About 150’years later descendants of Mark appeared in AR. They made their first home in Chambersville.
Winning in Saratoga is always special and Chambersville made us proud yesterday. He’s all turf by mistake but we’ll take it. 2 yo’s by Plainsman about to start with OP the target for next season.
In 1985 Vanlandingham won the “obscure” Steven Foster said NY turf writer. In his next race in NY he won the GI Suburban by 9. Picked up more weight than any Hcp horse in history. Later JC Gold Cup and DC International. Champion
Shortleaf 2 yos filtering into main track stables in KY, NJ and NY from Ocala and TX. Grass stock seeing action with a win at Monmouth.
Fresh young stock always brightens the stable outlook as they join the old soldiers. Summer in the east before KY and OP. QUIETSIDE in foal to Nyquist. Vet projects a filly.
PREAKNESS 151 DAY!!!
Fond memories of our winners Pine Bluff in 92 and Champion Prairie Bayou in 93.
It’s a bad sign when people ask “are you still racing”. We’ve just ended our worst season at OP in decades. A poor crop of 3 yo’s with nobody stepping up. Still, promising 2 yo’s to the track shortly for OP 26/27.
Quietside in foal to Nyquist on one cover.
The GII Oaklawn Handicap being run today may be the best race ever run at OP. As a result it will certainly be upgraded to a GI in the future. Not bad for a ratty like track somewhere out west to the NY elite. Good work by Mr Cella.
Typically 3 yo’s don’t run against older horses till fall. However, most OP races for Maiden AR Breds are 3&up. This pits some young horses while still 2 yo’s running against 4,5,6 yo’s. Most can’t compete while so young. Not good for Arky program.
After a tough win in last years GIi Fantasy, Quietside never regained her true form. Time to move on to the next task. She is shipping to KY to breed to Nyquist.
Goodness, what a bum crop of young horses for us this year. Minor injuries and lack of talent puts us in cheap races while quality prevails. Still have a few bullets to shoot and Quietside will make sure Nitrogen shows her class in the Azeri. We’ll get’em next year.
FINALLY, back in action this weekend. Five at OP with Quietside facing Nitrogen in the G3 Bayakoa on Saturday. Chambersville in at TW Sat nite. Frozen track has hampered training for weeks but now good forecast for racing this spring
How do retired outdoor horses handle Icy weather? Unclipped and with run in sheds they hardly notice. Frolic in snow. Lots of hay and oats. Freezing water the big issue. Barn stalls if needed but they hate it.
Clipped at track get blankets. Hope weather lets OP open 1/30.
Quietside training well for NY Ladies Stake on Saturday 1/17. Last start before coming home for OP series for F&M 4 and up with Apple Blossom the prize.
Quietside runs her best speed fig to be second in G3 in NY. Next at OP.
After two big races on turf, Chambersville disappoints in first dirt race with dull effort in NY. Will try again at OP.
Promising 2 yo c Chambersville in G2 Remsen at AQU on Saturday 12/6.
Quietside in G3 Comely at AQU on Sunday 12/7 against 3 yo f.
Last starts before OP 25/26.
