@larabirdsnp, your constituents in Arbroath and Broughty Ferry didnโt send you to Westminster to play international activist and get detained at a border for eight hours while virtue-signalling about olive harvests in the West Bank; they sent you to represent them. Instead, the SNPโs entire project has become performative foreign policy and grievance politics while Scotland collapses under your partyโs watch.
Scotland recorded 1,133 drug deaths in 2025; an 11% rise and still by far the worst rate in Europe (277 per million among 15โ64-year-olds). Thatโs more than 11,000 deaths in a decade. The most deprived areas suffer 15 times the rate of the least deprived. Dundee City, which covers part of your own constituency, continues to record among the highest local rates in Scotland.
Your partyโs โnational missionโ has failed catastrophically, yet here you are grandstanding about Palestinians instead of the Scots dying on the streets of Dundee and Arbroath.
The SNP government has run health and social care into the ground for nearly two decades. Education has also flatlined at historically poor levels in Scotland under the SNP.
Meanwhile Arbroathโs high street is full of empty units, food bank use has risen across Dundee and Angus, youth antisocial behaviour and crime have spiked in Broughty Ferry, and the cost-of-living crisis has hit hard here due to the long decline of traditional employment in fishing, engineering and manufacturing. These are the actual problems people raised in your own constituency.
The SNP has governed Scotland since 2007. The structural deficit, record drug deaths, stagnant or declining public services, and eroded educational standards are the results.
Flying to the Middle East for photo-op solidarity while ignoring the drug epidemic, the NHS waiting lists, and the unemployment at home is not solidarity - it is contempt for the people who pay your salary.
Get back to Arbroath and Broughty Ferry and do the job you were elected to do.
Today I was denied entry into the West Bank, alongside other parliamentary colleagues from across Europe as part of a @ProgIntl delegation.
We were held for 8 hours, interrogated and ultimately prevented from crossing the border.
I came to stand alongside Palestinians being attacked for harvesting olives on their own land. Instead, we were turned away, with no reason given.
More than ever, Palestinians are being subject to terror and violence by the IDF and illegal settlers. Increased blockades, demolitions and unthinkable violence have become the norm for Palestinians in the West Bank.
It is more important now than ever that we bear witness and show our solidarity.
But we were prevented from doing so.
I will continue to do everything I can to apply pressure on the Netanyahu government, and those responsible for the persecution and genocide of the Palestinian people.

LARGE NUMBERS OF ILLEGAL MIGRANTS OPENLY CARRYING LIFE JACKETS IN NORTHERN FRANCE

Walking along the main road from the bus stop in Loon-Plage towards the Dunkirk Jungle illegal migrant camp, I came across a very large group of illegal migrants openly carrying life jackets.
The group appeared to be guided and guarded by smugglers as they made their way along the road.
In my assessment, these people are preparing to move towards Calais ahead of the next opportunity to cross the English Channel to the UK.
No attempt to hide the life jackets. No attempt to conceal their movements.
All happening openly, in broad daylight, on a main road in northern France.

UK Parliament has mentioned Gaza more than the NHS or immigration.
In the Commons, Gaza racked up 9,228 mentions in roughly the first 10 months after the 2024 election โ more than immigration/asylum (~5,700) or the NHS (~5,300).
A year on, it is still regularly debated: ceasefire, aid, arms, RAF flights, inquiries.
This is a conflict 2,000 miles away with no British troops on the ground, no UK territory at stake, and no direct threat to Britain.
Domestic problems โ waiting lists, housing, borders โ keep getting ignored.

High quality news coverage - international, national and local. Non partisan editorial. Good columnists from across the political spectrum. Excellent magazines and supplements. High quality sport and arts content. Extensive information about forthcoming local events. Excellent design. And so many people in my own local community think the same. I see so many people in my local newsagents buying a copy of The Courier every morning. Itโs a much loved local institution.
