Says much more about the capabilities of RdZ as a Head Coach than Tel’s undoubted talents as a player! Well done “Mister” Roberto!
🚨Mathys Tel on scoring for Tottenham against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge: 🗣️ Mathys Tel: “A few weeks ago, after a match in which I failed to score, the coach called me over. He looked at me and said, ‘Tel, do you know why I called you?’ “I said, ‘Because I didn’t score, Mister?’ “He said, ‘No. Because you failed to follow my instructions.’ “I remember that conversation very well because it stayed in my head. As a forward, you always want to score. When you don’t, you start thinking about what you could have done differently. But he made me understand that scoring is not the only thing he expects from me. He wants me to make the right decisions, trust the system, and play the football he knows I am capable of playing. “Today, after I scored and came off, Mister called me over again. He was smiling, and I asked him, ‘Tel, do you know why I’m smiling?’ “I said, ‘Because I scored?’ “He said, ‘No. I’m smiling because you followed my instructions and played like the player I know you are.’ “Then he reminded me of something from training a few days ago. He said, ‘I saw you finish that ball from that distance in training. When you got into that position today, I expected you to shoot, and you did. You trusted yourself, you took the responsibility, and you scored. That is the player I want to see.’ “Then he looked at me and said, ‘Now, that is a player I’m willing to put my money on.’ “Honestly, I just smiled and walked away. I didn’t even know what else to say. [Laughs] Sometimes, a few words from your manager can mean more than people realize, especially when you’ve been working hard and waiting for your moment. “And to score my first goal against Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge, in a match like this? I couldn’t have written it any better. You know what this fixture means, and you know how much the supporters wanted us to deliver. To score that goal and help send their fans home before full time made it even sweeter. “But the most important thing for me wasn’t just the goal. It was knowing that the manager saw what he had been asking me to do and believed I could deliver it when the opportunity came. “Sometimes, when you’re young, you feel you have to do something spectacular every time you get the ball. You want to prove yourself, impress the supporters, and show everyone why you deserve to play. But I’ve learned that football is also about patience, discipline, and knowing when your moment has arrived. “Today, my moment came, and I took it. “I told Mister afterwards, ‘If you keep believing in me, I’ll keep giving you reasons to smile.’ He laughed and said, ‘Good. But tomorrow, you train like you haven’t scored anything.’ That’s football. You can score against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, become the happiest man in the stadium, and the next morning your manager is already asking you to do it again. But honestly, I wouldn’t have wanted my first goal to come any other way.”

Manchester City's defeat at Aston Villa means that the "Perfect Start" record of 11 straight wins set 65 years ago by the Tottenham Hotspur "Double Winners" of 1960/61 at the top division ... stands for yet another year. It underlines what a feat it was at the time - and in today's environment - and if not for a disallowed goal in game 12 then it would have stretched to 16 games!! It may have been over half-a-century ago - but "Well Done You Spurs"!!!

🤍 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟰 • 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗻 We remember Bill Nicholson, who passed away on this day in 2004. He led Spurs to the famous Double in '61 and our first European trophy in '63. Nine major honours, an incredible legacy. He will never be forgotten.

As a young lad going to White Hart Lane throughout the 1960’s and then early 1970’s, I have a shed load of very happy memories of great times - and players. All I can say is “Thank you - Mr. Nicholson - we will never forget you at Tottenham Hotspur (he always loved using the full name!).
22 years ago on this day Bill Nicholson, the greatest Manager in the history of @SpursOfficial passed away. He was indeed Mr Tottenham - Sir Bill & a great football man. He lived & breathed Spurs. May he rest in peace. 💙🤍🙏🙏@robawhite @WhiteHartRev @WhiteHartLiz @MIGHTYSPURZ

I thank the Good Lord that I saw most of him in a Spurs shirt back in the day - the greatest goalscorer I had the privilege and pleasure to watch at Tottenham. Rest well Jimmy.
Spurs legend, never forgotten 🤍 Remembering the great Jimmy Greaves on the fifth anniversary of his passing.

RIP the “Terrier” - one of the greatest of the Unsung Heroes that formed a crucial part of the Double Side. Just Jones, Allen and Saul left from that iconic season now.
The Club is extremely saddened to learn of the passing of our former player, Terry Dyson at the age of 91. Terry was a key part of our double-winning side in 1961, scoring in the FA Cup Final. He also scored twice in the 1963 European Cup Winners’ Cup Final. He made 209 appearances in all competitions, scoring 55 goals. Our deepest condolences are with Terry’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time 🤍

Margo Leadbetter was snobbish, humourless and entitled, & Penelope Keith managed to make her into one of the most adored (and oddly vulnerable) characters ever seen on a sitcom. She delivered every line as if it were a jewelled crown on a velvet cushion. An utter genius.

Memories of games with Everton at the Lane - and a Terry Dyson header gives TH the lead in a game in March 1964. We were top of Division One at the time and things were looking good. Unfortunately Everton struck back, won 4-2 and thus began a run of 3 consecutive home defeats that effectively ended our campaign that season.

In reporting on the late incident at Stamford Bridge last night, Phil McNulty of the BBC has articulated my view of the current status at THFC.... "But if Spurs do drop into the Championship on Sunday it will not be because of one incident after a campaign of discord, instability and rank incompetence on and off the pitch." And just not this campaign either, but in comparison with NL Neighbours in recent years, the constant changing of Coaches; purchase of players below the standard required to take us to the top level; and appointment of a Head of Recruitment who should have been fired for the lack of required activity in the January window alone!! As a Spurite for over 65 years, the current plight still breaks my heart - and worse than what we experienced in 1977, if we do drop, I can't see an easy way back given the calibre of playing staff we have at present.
