Detail isn't always an advantage. If the painting calls for it... I'll intentionally leave certain areas simplified or unresolved. Detail should serve the composition, create rhythm, and guide the viewer's eye. When every part of a painting is rendered with the same value structure and the same level of detail, the image becomes visually monotonous and exhausting.
