MORNING BRIEF ☕️: @solana activates Alpenglow today, its largest consensus overhaul since 2020. The upgrade targets finality of roughly 150 ms, down from about 12.8 seconds, replacing TowerBFT with Votor and moving validator votes off-chain. Validator voting costs also fall from roughly 2 SOL per day to a 0.8 SOL admission fee per epoch.
For trading, payments and bridges, the gain is not higher headline TPS but far less time with capital exposed before settlement becomes irreversible. ⚡
Tuesday Insights: Can a Country Get Delisted? 🌍
A private benchmark warning helped erase $65B from Indonesia’s stock market in a single day.
01 | Downgrade Risk
Indonesia has held Emerging Market status since 1989. It could now be moved directly to Standalone over opaque ownership, suspected coordinated trading and weak enforcement, a move that would push it outside one of the main pools used by global investors.
02 | Follow the Money
MSCI is a private index provider, but around $21T in assets are benchmarked to its indexes. Indonesia represents only about 0.46% of the Emerging Markets Index, yet exclusion could trigger $3–6B in passive selling as funds adjust automatically.
03 | Reform Pressure
Authorities have tightened shareholder disclosure, introduced concentration reporting, stepped up enforcement and set a path toward a 15% minimum free float. Staying investable now depends on proving those changes work, not simply announcing them.
04 | Beyond the Index
The pressure does not stop with equities. Large outflows can weaken the currency, tighten financial conditions and raise the cost of attracting capital across the economy.
A benchmark designed to classify markets can therefore end up influencing how those markets are regulated and financed.
📌 Key takeaway
Governments set the rules. Markets decide what those rules are worth.
MACRO RADAR | TUE, OCT 20 · PREVIEW 📡
US HOUSING STARTS & PERMITS: Housing starts are forecast at 1.30M (prev. 1.28M), while building permits are expected at 1.39M (prev. 1.40M).
PENDING HOME SALES: Expected to decline 0.6% MoM, following a 0.3% increase in August.
MARKET CONTEXT: Builder confidence fell to 29, its lowest since 2012, with 43% of builders cutting prices as mortgage rates remain above 7%. Permits and pending sales will be particularly important for assessing future activity. Weakness in both would suggest that a modest rebound in housing starts is unlikely to signal a sustained recovery.
MORNING BRIEF ☕️: Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade will activate on the Hoodi testnet on October 26, raising the gas limit from roughly 60M to 200M. The upgrade also introduces proposer-builder separation, block-level access lists and new gas pricing rules. Mainnet timing remains undecided.
The 200M target is not a 3.3x TPS promise, but a test of how much more work Ethereum L1 can handle without making block validation too demanding for nodes. ⛓️

MACRO RADAR | MON, OCT 19 · RECAP 📡
CHINA GDP: Q3 growth accelerated to 4.5% YoY from 4.3%, beating the 4.4% forecast. Strong exports keep China on track for its annual growth target, reducing pressure for major stimulus.
RETAIL SALES & INDUSTRIAL OUTPUT: September retail sales rose 1.1% YoY versus 0.5% expected, while industrial production grew 5.5% against a 5.4% forecast. Both exceeded expectations, although consumer spending remains relatively weak compared with manufacturing activity.
INVESTMENT: Fixed-asset investment fell 7.2% in the first nine months, while property investment plunged 20.6%. China's reliance on exports leaves its economy increasingly exposed to weaker global demand and trade restrictions.
MORNING BRIEF ☕️: Michael Saylor has proposed a bitcoin:native -backed, dollar-pegged stablecoin designed to pay 6%–8% annual yield. The concept would combine Bitcoin collateral with digital credit products, including Strategy preferred shares, plus interest from cash reserves. No launch date, issuer or timeline has been announced.
The idea pushes Saylor’s model beyond treasury accumulation into Bitcoin-backed credit and yield-bearing digital dollars. 🪙

Tuesday Insights: The @Saylor Pivot ₿
In 2020, Michael Saylor turned a software company's cash reserves into one of the boldest corporate bets of the decade. Six years later, one of its defining principles has changed.
1️⃣ The Bet
The story began in 2020, when MicroStrategy was sitting on more than $500 million in cash as near-zero interest rates and massive monetary stimulus reshaped Saylor's view of corporate reserves. He concluded that holding dollars was steadily eroding purchasing power and started searching for an alternative.
In August, the company made its first move: $250 million for 21,454 bitcoin:native. What began as a treasury decision soon reshaped the entire company.
2️⃣ The Machine
The real scale came from financial engineering. Strategy sold new MSTR shares, issued convertible bonds and later created preferred securities such as STRK, STRF, STRD and STRC, each designed to attract different investors through combinations of yield, seniority and equity exposure.
The proceeds flowed into more bitcoin:native, allowing the company to build a $60B+ treasury far beyond what its software business could have financed. Strong demand for its securities kept the cycle running: raise, buy, repeat.
3️⃣ The U-Turn
Then the market turned the model on its head. bitcoin:native fell roughly 50% from its 2025 peak, $MSTR dropped more than 45% YTD and Strategy's mNAV slipped below 1 for the first time, making its traditional fundraising engine far less attractive.
That's when “never sell” finally cracked. Strategy began using bitcoin:native to fund preferred payouts and rebuild its USD reserve, selling 3,588 coins for $216 million around the turn of July and authorizing up to another $1.25 billion. A principle Saylor defended for years had met its first real financial constraint.
4️⃣ The Feedback Loop
Now the stress test extends beyond Strategy itself. The company controls more than 840,000 bitcoin:native, roughly 4% of the maximum supply, giving its decisions potential weight far beyond its own balance sheet.
That creates a potentially powerful cycle: weaker bitcoin:native makes financing harder, treasury sales can add pressure or shift sentiment, and further declines tighten the same conditions again. Strategy has become large enough for the asset supporting its model and the company holding it to influence each other.
📌 Key takeaway
The next full market cycle could decide whether Saylor built a blueprint for corporate finance or revealed where the bitcoin:native treasury model reaches its limits.
📰 NEWS: Crypto hacks drained $1.18B across 107 incidents in Q3, a 55% increase from the previous quarter, according to Hacken. Around $907M in losses involved compromised infrastructure, missed security fixes or components excluded from audits, raising serious questions about how much protection an audit actually provides. 🔐

🤖 Made with AI
MORNING BRIEF ☕️: America’s roughly $10T AI infrastructure buildout is running into physical and financial limits. At least 47 major projects have been stalled or canceled, only 35% of planned data centers are considered viable, and more than 1,000 communities have introduced restrictions.
Power access, permits and financing are now deciding which AI projects actually get built, not just demand for compute. 🏗️
📰 NEWS: Bitget is cutting off services for users in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan following an update to its restricted jurisdictions. Some affected customers have been told to stop opening trades on October 18 and close positions by October 21, with remaining positions subject to automatic closure. The exchange says customer funds remain safe and unaffected accounts will continue operating normally. ⚠️
MORNING BRIEF ☕️: China has proposed export controls on 40 critical technologies, including 23 AI categories covering large models, agents and computing clusters. Of the 40, 14 could be banned from export and 26 restricted, while open-source technology and most API, app and SaaS access remain exempt. Temporary registration for covered transfers is already in effect.
Beijing can keep Chinese AI available globally while tightening control over the core technology, IP and overseas deployments behind it. 🔒
Weekly News Recap | Oct 10 – 16 📰
Markets split in two this week: financial infrastructure kept moving onchain, while hotter inflation and AI volatility forced a sharper rethink of risk.
🚗 Roadster Takes Flight
@Tesla unveiled its redesigned Roadster with SpaceX-developed rocket thrusters, demonstrating jumps and aerial maneuvers. $TSLA rose 3% in premarket trading following the reveal.
📊 Inflation Heats Up
U.S. producer prices jumped 1.3% MoM in September versus 0.5% expected, the largest increase since March 2022, pushing annual PPI to 6.3%. Retail sales rose 0.8% versus 0.3% forecast, though higher gasoline prices drove much of the gain.
💳 Stablecoin Payouts
@Visa Direct is moving stablecoin prefunding and payouts from pilot programs into commercial use, allowing eligible clients to fund and move money with stablecoins. zerohash provides infrastructure for the capabilities, while Inyo Global became the first enabler to take prefunding live.
🇯🇵 Yen Stablecoin Pilot
Mizuho, MUFG and SMBC completed a joint yen stablecoin pilot covering issuance, cross-border transfers and redemption for Mitsubishi Corporation. The test ran under Japan's FSA FinTech PoC program ahead of planned live transactions in fiscal 2026.
🛡 zkEVM Security
@zksync Airbender Prime proved 99% of 7,200 consecutive Ethereum blocks in under 10 seconds each on a single GPU. @VitalikButerin said the speed race is effectively won and zkEVM development should now prioritize security and formal verification.
🇪🇺 USDC Under EBA
The European Banking Authority classified @circle's $USDC as the EU's first significant e-money token under MiCA. From November 12, the EBA will directly oversee areas including reserves, liquidity and redemption requirements alongside France's ACPR.
🔐 Ledger Sales Halt
@Ledger asked resellers across six Southeast Asian countries and Hong Kong to suspend device sales while it investigates tampered hardware. The company has found an unauthorized implant in one device but says its systems and direct sales channel show no signs of compromise.
📈 mStocks Coming
@Bybit_Official plans to launch mStocks in November with Mantle, offering tokenized equities backed 1:1 by real shares with round-the-clock conversion. The tokens are also planned for DEX trading on Mantle and use as collateral inside Bybit.
🚨 Heart Detained
HEX and PulseChain founder Richard Heart was reportedly detained in Istanbul under an Interpol Red Notice requested by Finland over alleged aggravated tax fraud. Turkish reports say authorities seized $4M in cash and 64 luxury watches during the operation.
📉 BlackRock Turns Neutral
@BlackRock cut its tactical view on U.S. equities from overweight to neutral, citing near-term volatility around the AI buildout and higher rates. It simultaneously upgraded short-term U.S. Treasuries while keeping its long-term conviction in AI intact.

MACRO RADAR | FRI, OCT 16 · PREVIEW 📡
US IMPORT PRICES: Forecast to rise 0.9% MoM after 0.7% in August. Following this week's hotter CPI and PPI, another upside surprise could reinforce inflation concerns, although USD has weakened despite stronger readings.
US INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION: Expected to rebound 0.4% MoM after stagnating in August. Stronger output could signal resilient economic activity, while weaker data would raise concerns about growth amid persistent price pressures.
MORNING BRIEF ☕️: MSCI has finalized new rules that put $MSTR at risk of removal from its global indexes. Strategy was among the companies flagged in an earlier simulation, with the final list due November 11. JPMorgan previously estimated a removal could trigger around $2.8B in passive outflows.
That would pressure Strategy’s funding engine by weakening demand for $MSTR and making future equity raises for bitcoin:native purchases less efficient. ₿

US PPI & RETAIL SALES: Producer prices surged 1.3% MoM against 0.6% expected, the largest increase since March 2022. Retail sales rose 0.8% versus 0.3% forecast, although higher fuel prices drove much of the gain. Following Wednesday's hotter CPI, persistent inflation strengthens the case for tighter Fed policy, while underlying consumer spending looks less robust.
UK GDP: The economy grew 0.1% in August against expectations of a 0.1% decline, but slowed from July's 0.4% growth.
AUSTRALIAN EMPLOYMENT: Employment fell by 39.3K against forecasts of a 19.6K increase, with unemployment reaching 4.7%, adding pressure on AUD.
MACRO RADAR | THU, OCT 15 📡
US PPI & RETAIL SALES: Following Wednesday's hotter core CPI, producer inflation is expected to accelerate to 0.6% MoM, while retail sales growth is forecast to slow to 0.3%. Higher inflation alongside weaker spending could complicate the Fed's rate outlook, keeping USD and gold in focus.
UK GDP: The economy grew 0.1% in August against expectations of a 0.1% decline, a positive surprise for GBP.
AUSTRALIAN EMPLOYMENT: Employment fell by 39.3K against forecasts of a 19.6K increase, weakening expectations for further RBA rate hikes and pressuring AUD.
MORNING BRIEF ☕️: @krakenfx parent Payward is acquiring Lithuania-based Saldo Bank, the first European bank purchase by a digital-asset company. The deal would combine deposits, cards and credit with crypto and tokenized stocks, including loans backed by digital assets. Closing is expected in 2027, pending regulatory approval.
Owning the banking layer lets Kraken earn from customer balances and credit, reduce reliance on third-party banks and control more of the financial relationship itself. 🏦
