To keep up momentum, sometimes breaking up the To-learn task into smaller, more easily addressable tasks lowers the activation energy barrier to tackle some things that you've been wanting to do for a while!
Productivity comes from focusing on your to-do list. Growth starts with making your to-learn list. If you put learning on the back burner, you get more done without getting better. Improving depends on setting goals for knowledge and skills to build, not just tasks to finish.
As a mentor, I have found that it is most important to not judge a student by my own “standards” but by their own - to understand what it is that they are passionate about and want to excel at, and to help them bring that out, so that they succeed on their own terms.

I don't like to be political on my twitter (or ever really), but I cannot stand by idly on this topic. Please consider signing Madeline's petition and get involved if you care about the future of #STEM in the US.

Check out this surprising gift from the ACS. Last year I picked up my lapsed membership, and now I'm getting mugs again. 8! I haven't seen one before. Who in my network has the highest number? #ACSmugs

This year's #cottrellscholars conference theme is Scientific Communication. I am so lucky to crash one of the main events: the #scienceslam!! Excited to see what these Germans, Russians, and Americans have to give!

Anyone else walk around with a mysterious gnawing guilt and ever expanding sense of failing despite working hard and getting things done? Please tell me I’m not alone. I was thinking about this today and may have an idea on why, and how we can overcome it: thingsthatchangethewayithink…

Highlighting a generous mentor and colleague on #IWD2019
For Marjorie, neuroscience research is personal: "When I sit in lab meetings, I'm always thinking about my family and how our research and decisions relate back to all affected patients." #IWD2019 #BalanceforBetter novartis.com/stories/from-ou…

"Do you go in and just do it yourself because you want to get it done right? Or do you realize that actually 'getting it done right' just really means doing it your way and that there could be a more innovative and impactful way of getting things done?" Truer words never spoken.
A project I co-lead will be featured at work on International Womens Day! I love working with this team of brilliant, collaborative scientists!! And because they will make strange poses with me! How is your company celebrating March 8?

Wise words
Yes, we need more servant leaders, but we also need more discerning followers. Judge leaders by the values they enact, not the values they claim. When they fail to live up to their principles or yours, choose civil disobedience over blind loyalty. #SaturdayThoughts
