At the Financial Times Africa Summit taking place in London this week, Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote confirmed that he was the buyer of the 25% stake in Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) through Monday’s block transaction.
— Acquired 4.5B shares for $335M (~KES 42.5B), at a slight premium to the prevailing market price.
— Dangote plans to invest a further $1.5B (~KES 194.9B) to expand KPC's 1,300km pipeline network, positioning Kenya as a regional fuel distribution hub.
— Confirmed that initial construction work on the planned 700,000-barrel-per-day Lamu refinery has begun, with ongoing land disputes not expected to delay the project.
