🇿🇦 I am a South African. And I think we’re kinda fucking great. Sorry, but this is factual. I live in an underrated country. Here’s a thread of why I feel this way.
Spoiler: you’re gonna hate some of these. 🇿🇦
Day 22: [REC] 2 (2009).
I hate to be this person, but the original was better. And I don’t like the religious aspect. Like just let it be a weird fucking virus. It’s still better than most found footage stuff though.
I’ve learned some new Spanish swear words 😁
Day 21: Malum (2023).
This is a movie about satanic pork or something.
Seriously though, some very psychological horror and worthwhile scares. Also, a police station has never seemed so terrifying. Also also, yay cultists!
A very good time.
One of my best parenting qualities is that I have no issue with letting my kid get zero for things he forgot to do or tell me about 🤷♀️
Day 20: Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (2026).
I’m a mom. But I’m not THAT good of a parent. Like I probably would’ve tapped out WAY before these guys. But you know, solid film, creepy acting, children are terrifying and you should never have them ever.
Great film.
its Shelley, not Shirley. Sorry 🤷♀️ retweeted
Valedictory 🎓
Do you remember your shirt signing day?
The messages you wrote to peers, how you wished them well, the slang and secret codes.
Do you still own that signed shirt?
Have you lived up to the promises you made to yourself?
I’ve got my final workshop/pitch for my behavioural economics qualification on Friday and I’m so excited.
I think my idea is the fucking tits and they’d be fools not to actually implement it.
Never stop learning!
My cat REALLY wants me to acknowledge her hunting skills. I know this because I stood on a dead bird when I got out of bed this morning ❤️
Day 19: Stopmotion (2023).
The production design in this film is so fucking cool.
The acting is meh. The “reveals” are meh. The scares are pretty good. But the materials they use are so frikkin cool and I want to squish them in my hands.
It’s totally for me 😁🥰
Day 18: Grafted (2024).
See, I’m nearly caught up!
One of the few I haven’t seen before. It’s hella visceral. Not the best acting, crazy stupid plot holes, but the gore is good and the concept is interesting. Solid bit of fun.
More New Zealand horror!
Day 17: 30 Days of Night (2007).
Fucking YES, Hartnett. I hadn’t seen this in ages.
It’s campy and vampy and makes me feel trampy 😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hartnett was absolute 2000s horror royalty.
Banger.
Day 16: The Void (2016)
I’m not into tentacle porn. But the practical effects are magnificent.
Otherwise, yeah it was good. I respect it but it’s not my vibe.
