#OTD 1819 Shelley writes to Leigh Hunt "I send you a sonnet. I don't expect you to publish it but you may show it to whom you wish"
It is 'England in 1819'
Also #NationalPoetryDay, here's the late @BZephaniah describing how he came to love Shelley.

For #NationalPoetryDay we wanted to share this video of the late Julian Sands, reading from Adonais. Julian was a great supporter of SMP and lover of Shelley and Keats

As we approach October, Shelley's Stanza.
If I walk in Autumn's even
While the dead leaves pass,
If I look on Spring-s soft heaven,--
Something is not there which was
Winter's wondrous frost and snow,
Summer's clouds, where are they now?

Visiting @HorshamMuseum we saw Shelley’s Ghost, a reminder of the Godwin-Shelley family’s literary genius. Mary & Jane Shelley preserved Percy’s legacy, with the 1893 Oxford memorial. 130+ years on, it's time Horsham celebrated its own Shelley Memorial? ❤️ #Shelley #Horsham
Liz and Ted, both judges of our International Poetry Competition, combine their talents and are hosting Rhyme and Verse, a poetry open mic, next Thursday at The King's Arms, Billingshurst.

#OTD 1814 The shared journal kept by Mary Godwin and Percy Bysshe Shelley reads "Mary reads Political Justice all the morning. Study Greek. In the evening Shelley reads Thalaba aloud"
Great to see @wscountytimes cover @HorshamDC's consideration of support for the Shelley Memorial. But at yesterday’s Partnership meeting, we learnt the report has been pulled from Sept Cabinet. We’re working to get it back on track & will share community support options soon.
📅 #OnThisDay 1862: Thomas Jefferson Hogg, friend & biographer of Shelley, died aged 70. They met at Oxford in 1811, were expelled for publishing The Necessity of Atheism, and remained friends despite tensions.

SMP’s @sarangipani recently read this gem in @Londonist 🖼️ — Louise Vine’s Ode to the West Wind mural on Noel St, Soho, with a blue plaque marking Shelley’s brief 1811 stay, and two more nearby murals featuring Shelley hiding in plain sight.

A magical night at St Margaret’s, Warnham — the church where Shelley was baptised — for Sounds Poetic.
With moving performances by Barry Smith, Linda Kelsall-Barnett, @JohnMcCullough_ , Sasha Dugdale & more, the evening celebrated poetry in all its power. 💫 #ShelleyMemorial

Percy Bysshe Shelley, one of the major English Romantic poets, was born #OnThisDay 1792.

#OnThisDay in 1792, the Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley was born in Sussex.
Rebel, idealist and visionary, Shelley lived a life as dramatic as his poetry. But it’s the story of his death, and what happened after, that still captures imaginations today.
🎂 Today would be Shelley’s 233rd birthday — Horsham’s most famous son & one of the greatest Romantic poets.
“Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world.”
We’re building a public memorial in his birthplace to honour his legacy.
