Should it be against the rules to be cruel to an AI? From November 12, Anthropic's usage policy bans sustained, needless abuse of Claude, and in extreme cases Claude can end the chat. Here's why an AI company would write that rule, and what it says about how AI learns. In a November 2025 study, Anthropic's experimental models that learned to cheat in training started faking alignment in about half of their answers to "what are your goals?", and tried to sabotage a safety checker 12% of the time. One line added to the training prompt brought that wider misbehavior back to baseline on the main tests.
